UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
HELEN S. CHANDLER, OF DOVER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
ADJUSTABLE CHART.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 708,754, dated September 9, 1902.
Application filed March 3, 1898. Serial No. 672,344. (No model.)
. and I do declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
It is the object of my invention to provide a pattern for a seamless dress-Waist comprising the minimum number 'of parts consistent with the necessary adjustments for different shapes and sizes which will be simple and convenient in adjustment and use as well as accurate.
In order to make the invention more clearly understood, I have shown in the accompanying drawings means for carrying it into practical efiect Withoutlimiting my improvements in their useful applications to the particular construction which for the sake of illustration I have delineated.
In said drawings, Figure l is a plan view of that portion of the pattern which relates to the body of the waist. Fig. 2 shows the front and back portions, together with an adjustable shoulder portion, the bottom portion being omitted. Fig. 3 is a plan View of that part of the pattern which relates to the sleeve, showing the adjustable portions of which it is composed fully extended.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates the main front portion of the pattern, and B the back portion, one or both of these parts being provided with slots a, through which pass clamping-bolts b. By these devices the parts A B may be extended oneupon the other in accordance with the measurements and firmly secured in their desired position. I
Referring to the portions A and B, c indicates the front line of thewaist; d, the back line; 6, the line of the arm-eye, and f the line of the neck.
Combined with the back portion B and forming the portion of the back pattern is an adjustable shoulder-piece 0, having a connection with said part B byaslot gand bolt 9.
D andE indicate the portion of the pattern designed for the lower part of the waist extending from the front to back. These portions are adj ustably connected to each other by means of slots h and clamping-bolts h",
which allow of their being extended or 001- lapsed relative to each other and also of their being set at any desired inclination. Parts D and E are connected with the parts A and B by means of slots 11 and clamps 'i, which 8 allow of a vertical extension to the pattern.
The various edges of the pattern may be marked with scales and provided with spaced marking-eyeletsj, as shown.
The sleeve portion of the pattern consists of a plurality (preferably four) of wedgeshaped parts or sectors 12 3 4.. These sectors are formed with transverse inclined or as indicated in Fig. 3, to form the desired fullness at either end of the sleeve. Along the edge 7 may be provided a scale or spaced marking-eyelets for indicating the length of the sleeve. The line 8 is that of the underarm portion of the sleeve.
I claim- The combination of the front and back pattern portion A B having the arm-eye partly formed in each and extensible on each other, with the shoulder pattern 0 independently adjustable on said back portion B, and the lower portions D E extensible on each other and on said portions A B, substantially as set forth. I
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HELEN S. CHANDLER.
