PETER D. GRAAFF, OF FRESNO, CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE WARDROBE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent N 0. 708,341, dated September 2, 1902.
Application filed April 2'7, 1901. Serial No. 57,749. (No model.)
flat wall and which is simple in construction.
I accomplish this by the means of the wardrobe illustrated in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the wardrobe, a portion of the top being in vertical section to show the construction. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view.
In the annexed drawings,"1 represents the top of the wardrobe, having suitable sides 2, back 3, and front 4:. On the under side of the top 1 is secured a pair of depending brackets 5, which are provided with openings to receive a detachable rod 6, which is provided with a head at one end and screw-threads at its other end adapted to receive a nut 7, thereby preventing its accidental displacement.
Upon the rod 6 are appended suitable books 8, the same being adapted to receive clothing. Clothing-hooks are also secured to the lower portion of the back of the wardrobe, as at 9.
The numeral 10 designates the longitudinal curtain-rod, which extends on the under side front portion of the top, some distance below the surface thereof, and is held inposition by a support 13, which not only serves the purpose of securing the rod, but also prevents the sagging of the same. The ends of the rod are curved and bent at right angles to the rod, so as to form branch straight arms 10, having their terminal ends secured to the back 3 of the structure. Mounted upon the rod 10 and its arms 10 are rings 12, to which is attached a curtain 11, adapted to have a sliding movement on the rod 10, and also by means of the curvature of the arms 10 the curtain can be slidably arranged on said arms, whereby to fold the curtain at the ends of the wardrobe, thereby exposing the entire front of the same, so that any desired article of clothing can be hung on the-hook or readily removed therefrom.
In securing my wardrobe in place I prefer to use eyebolts 14; but I do not wish to be understood as confining myself to this particular securing means, as their mechanical equivalent may be used in lieu thereof.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A portable wardrobe comprising atop, sides and back, brackets extending centrally downward from the under side of the top having a detachable rack suspended thereby, hooks secured to the lower front edge portion of the therod to the straight arms, or vice versa, by
means of said curvature at the intersection of said rod and said arms, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
PETER D. GRAAFF.
