To all whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMOND KUHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in WVatchoases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a watchcase having certain novel features of construction set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a face view of a Watch embodying this invention. Fig. 2 is a section along as 00, Fig. 1.
In the drawings is shown a watchcase having a front plate or, rather,flange. The body, or, as it might called, case-center, is indicated at a and the front or flange at a. This case can be readily formed by die-work, so that the center and front are integral, and the front being then suitably cut out in part will form the flange a, leaving the case partly closed on one side.
The movement b and dial 0 are secured, re spectively, to opposite sides of said flange a. This flange is adapted for the attachment of both the movement and the dial, the former being secured or suspended to one side of the flange by screws or fastenings c and the dial by the fastenings f. This flange has suitable seats or countersinks for the fastenings e of the movement, so as to leave the top or outside of the plate part a flat and suitable for the support of a dial 0. This dial can be perfectly fiat, neither raised nor milled out, and of any suitable material. Paper has been found suitable for the dial.
The dial, as seen, can be secured in place without interfering with the dial or, rather, hand-moving work or any part of the movement or gears. It is thus not necessary to make room for the hand-movement that the dial should be raised from its plane of support or milled out in part, as the movement I) is suspended sufficiently clear or far away from flange a to secure the desired space.
The case is adapted for the attachment of a rear plate h and a bezel t', with the usual glass or crystal.
The device has been found to be practical, cheap, and simple. The movement can be readily secured and removed by applying or removing the fastenings 6. Likewise the fastenings f allow ready attachment or removal of the dial. The latter can be cheaply and rapidly supplied when made of such material as paper. The separate fastenings e and f allow the movement and dial to be secured independently of one another.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A watchcase, the body portion of which is composed of a single piece of metal, a flange formed therewith and partly inclosing one side of the same, said flange having countersinks for the movement-fastenings, and the said body portion being adapted for the attachment of a rear plate and a bezel.
