Description

(No Model.)
E. P BAIRD.
CLOCK CASE.
No. 520,979. Patented June 5, 1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD PAYSON BAIBD, OF PLATTSBURG, NEW YORK.
CLOC K-CAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,979, dated June 5, 1894.
Application filed March 7, 1893- Serial No- 46 5,014. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD PAYSON BAIRD, clock-maker and manufacturer of advertising-signs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plat-tsburg, in the county ofClinton and State of New York, but temporarily of No. 107 Queen Victoria Street, in the city of London, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Olock-0ases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in clock cases, and has for its object, first, to manufacture a clock case so as to dispense with the crystal ordinarily used to shield the face of the dial, at the same time that complete protection is afforded thereto, and also to the clock movement; and secondly, to allow of the clock case being used as a paper weight. I attain this object in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a vertical section of aclock case made according to my invention, and Fig. 2 an elevation thereof, showing the clock movement fitted therein.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in both figures.
a is the case, which is made of one piece of glass molded to any desired shape; a suitable opening being left therein at the back, as shown in the drawings, or in any other convenient position, through which the clock is inserted and fitted therein.
7) are stops formed on the inside of the case against which the face of the clock butts.
B indicates the clock movement. 0 is the back plate of such movement.
cl is a shield or cover which renders the interior of the ease dust proof.
To these pillars it is secured by screw pins j, a
or their equivalents, which passing through the tie plates and cover, take into such pillars and so fasten the cover in position and render the case complete. The cover may however be secured by rivets or in any other convenient manner.
Clock cases made and fitted according to my invention are both useful and ornamental and can be used as paper weights, and also foradvertising and other purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clock case formed of glass and having a concavo-convex transparent portion a formed integral with the main portion of the case, an internal projection for the clock face plate to bear against, and a recess 6 at the rear of the case; in combination with a bearing piece f secured in the said recess and adapted to receive the screws for fastening the clock mechanism in the chamber formed between the said recess and projection, substantially as set forth.
