WARREN P. MILLER, or SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
I Letters Patent No. 70,736, dated November 12, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN- PAN-BLOWERS.
tre Sttelmle nffmhtr lin tiges: @tetten a'tmtmrh mating mutui the samt.
TO ALL WI-IOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, WARREN P. MILLER, in the city and county of SelrFrenoisco,y and State of Californie., ha-ve invented e new and improved Mode of onstructing Spiral FenfBlowers; and I do hereby dccldre that thefollowing is e. full and exact description thereof, reference being'had to the accompanyingl drawings, and to ther/letters of reference marked thereon, making partlof this specification, in which- Figure 1 is e side elevation, with e portion of the case of t'hefan-wheels broken away, thus showing the position of the fans, and the-` arrows point their direction; elsorthe direction of the dir-currents.
Figure 2 is u horizontl section cut through the centre of' the shaft.
Letters a a is the -freine or bed-platte; letters b b, boxes for the support of the shaft; c c, the principal shaft; dd, a hollow shaft turning on shaft C; letter e, pulley on shaft e; letter-f, pulley on shaft d; letters gg, wheel on hollow shaft d, carrying a doublesct of fans; letters z It, .wheel on shaft c, carryingone set of fans; letters z' z' z' z' the fans; letters jj, outside case of fun-wheels; letters l1: lc k, supports for the frame; letters ll, screw abutment for shaft c; letters m m, conical ease for the air-duct. y
To enable others skilled in the artto mekeend use :ny invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and' operation. i A
I construct the fan-wheel thirty inches in diameter, set the fans at en angle of aboutvforty degrees with the-line of motiong, The shaft c is set in suitable boxes, and supported by the abutment Z, and carries one set of fans, which are set in reverse position to those on wheel g, and allso turn in the'opposite direction to which said whe'el g turns. l l
By reterencevto the drawings it will be observed, that if thewheels g and h are set in rapid motion in the directionsindicntei-by the application of belts tothe pulleys e and f the air will be impelled into the duct m.
The object of'vthe above-described arrangement nf fans is to produce o. tranger Current of air, for ell purP poses to which fans tere applicable, than can be elfected with a single Wheel. l The result is produced in manner, to wit: A partial vacuum being formed behind each fan ofthe preceding wheel, the compressed air in front of the fans of each succeeding wheel will escape into the vacuum before mentioned, and thus each wheel acts :is a feeder to the wheel preceding it.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A blower, consisting o`.two or more wheels, constructed and operated in manner es described.
WARREN P. MILLER.
