UNrTED STATES PATENT OFFICE."
WILHELM WAGNER, OF MANSFELD, GERMANY.
HYDRAULIC PUM P.
SPECIFICATION forming 0f Letters Patent No. 707,284, dated August 19, 1902.
Application filed February 6, will.` SerialNo. 46,180. (No model.) l
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM WAGNER, a subject of the King of Prussia and Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Mansfeld, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hydraulic Pumps, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to the construction of hydraulic pumps; and its lobj ect is to provide means whereby large quantities of fluid cany be transmitted under high pressure by to the accompanying drawings and more particularly claimed.
Figure lis a sectional view of my improvedi single-acting hydraulic pump. Fig. 2 is a similar view of my ,double-acting hydraulic pump.
a, is a fluid-column cylinder having a discharge-pipe b. cis a lower pressure-cylinder,-
and d is au upper pressure-cylinder supported on the lowerApressure-cylinder by a housing e. The lower and upper ends, re-
spectively, of these pressure-cylinders arey connected, by means of pipes p, with the airchamber f of the fluid-column cylinder. The
lower and upper cylinders are of different diameters and provided with vdifferential pistons c and Z, respectively, the lowerpiston Zo being the working pist-on and the upper piston Z the balancing-piston. Both the pistons oppose the pressure ofthe fluid column in.
the lift or discharge pipe ZJ. `Thespace above the lower piston Zt is in communication with a valve-casing s, connected with the uidcolumn cylinder and controlled by a suctionvalve m and a pressure-valve o. A suctionv pipe n is connected with the valve-casing beneath the suction-valve. The area of the two pistonsc and Zis calculated to suit the suction and the frictional loss ot' the pistons. The pistons are connected by a rod q, passing` through the stuffing box or boxes t' and j. The rod q is provided witha coupling-pin r, with whichthe forked inner end of an operating hand-lever ZL is engaged. This hand- `lever is pivotedto an arm g on the housing c. By depressing the hand-lever h, so as to raise the pistons Zt and Z, the upper piston forces the iiuidabove it into the air-chamber f and thence into the lift or discharge pipe b. Whenthe pistons have reached their upper- `most positions and the power upon the hand- -lever ceases, the pressure of the fluid column in the lift or discharge` pipe acts to facilitate the -return of the hand-lever. The pump shown in Eig. 2 is also provided with difterential pistons 7c and Z, which in this instance are both used as working pistons, the outer surfaces of both pistons being subjected to the pressure of the forcing fluid column by reason of the connecting-pipes p. The inner end of the upper pressure-cylinder also communicates 'with the air-chamber]c through an upper Valve-casing s, also provided with a suction-valve fm, and pressure-valve o and having'a suction-pipe n connected therewith. The action of this pump is the same as that ofthe pump shown in Fig. 1, with the ydierence, however, that the delivery of fluid takes place at every stroke. The pistons are also subjected to the constantly-balancing pressure'of thelift-'columm wherebya considerable saving in thepower for lifting the handllever is effected.A
',Having thus described my invention, the
yfollowing is-what I claim as new therein and ydesire to secure by Letters Patent:
1.1A hydraulic pump comprising a fluidlcolumn cylinder having a discharge-pipe, the lower pressure-cylinder, the upper pressurecylinder, the housing whereby the upperpressure-cylinder is supported on the lower pressure cylinder, the lower and upper pipes whereby the lower and upper pressure-cylinders are connected with the duid-column cylinder, the valve-casing, connectingthe lower pressure-cylinder with the fluid-column cylinder, having suction and pressure valves, a suction-pipe connected with the valve-casing, the pistons working in the lower and upper pressure-cylinders, the rod, connecting the pistons, having a coupling-pin and an operating hand-lever pivoted to the housing and engaging the coupling-pin for reciprocating the pistons, substantially as set forth.
2. A hydraulic pump comprising a fluidcolumn cylinder having a discharge-pipe, the lower pressure-cylinder, the upper pressurecylinder of larger diameter than the lower pressure-cylinder, the housing whereby the upper pressure-cylinder is supported on the lower pressure-cylinder, the lower and upper pipes whereby the lower and upper pressurecylinders are connected with the Huid-column cylinder, the valve casing connecting the lower pressure-cylinder with the fluid-colu mn cylinder, having suction and pressure valves, a suction-pipe connected with the Valve-casing, the differential pistons working in the lower and upper pressure-cylinders, the rod, connecting the pistons, having a coupling-pin and an operating hand-lever pivoted to the housing and engaging the coupling-pin for reciprocating the pistons, substantially as set forth.
3. A hydraulic pump comprising a fluidcolumn cylinder having a discharge-pipe, the lower pressure-cylinder, the upper pressurecylinder, the housing whereby the upper pressure-cylinder is supported on the lower pressure cylinder, the lower and upper pipes whereby the lower and upper pressure-cylinders are connected with the Huid-column cylinder, the valve-casings connecting the lower and upper pressure-cylinders with the fluidcolumn cylinder, each having suction and pressure-valves, suction-pipes connected with the valVe-casings, the pistons working in the lower and upper pressure-cylinders, the rod, connecting the pistons, having a coupling-pin and an operating hand-lever pivoted to the housing and engaging the coupling-pin for reciprocating the pistons, substantially as set forth.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
WILHELM WAGNER.
