UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSIAH H. KIDDER, OF PUEBLO, COLORADO.
HYDRANT-COCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 707,119, dated August 19, 1902. Application filed December 27, 1900. $erial No, 41,297. (No model.)
To all whom it may cancer-m Be it known that I, JOSIAH H. KIDDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pueblo, .Pueblo county, in the State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Hydrant- Oock, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a hydrant-cock in which a hydrant-cock-with a double elbow is made to connect with the supply-pipe and disoharge-pipeat bottom of hydrant-box.
The objects of my improvements are, first,
to provide a hydrant-cock with a double el-v bow that may be fitted, placed, or replaced from top of ground, working through-the hydrant-box, without the necessity of digging out the hydrant; second, to provide a key or wrench by which the hydrant-cock may be placed and screwed upon the supply-pipe or may be screwed from the supply-pipe and removed from the hydrant. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the hydrantcock connected up to the supply and discharge and in position in the hydrant-box, the latter being in vertical section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the hydrant-cock with the connections made thereto, Fig. 3 isan end view of the hydrant-cock detached, and Fig. 4 is a side View of a part of the hydrant-cock key-head. i
To put my invention intopractice, I construct the hydrant-cock Ewith grooves 01 d, forming a shoulder b. This hydrant-cock is entirely arranged in the hydrant-box D and connected thereto.v A hydrant-cock key-head is employed and has a slot ainits' lowerend and is provided at this lower end with ribs 0 c, which are adapted to engagein the grooves 01 d when thehead' b is engaged in the slot at. In connectingor disconnecting the hydrantcook the slot at in the key-headis slipped over the shoulder or oblong bur b on the hydrantcock, the ribs 0 c of the key-head fitting in the grooves d at under the shoulder or bur b, thus holding the hydrant-cockwhile fitting-or removing the same. Thus the key may be fitted from the surface, working through the hydrant-box, and the hydrant-cock screwed from the supply-pipe, or when putting on the hydrant-cock is fitted in key, as above, lowered to bottom, and screwed upon the supplypipe at bottom of hydrant.
drant-cocks with double elbows have been made. I therefore do not claim such invention, broadly; but
What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The double-elbow hydrant-cock; herein described, provided with'the shoulder 1) combined with the key provided with the slot (1.
and the ribs 0 o, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two witnesses. 1
. JOSIAH H'. KIDDER.
