TOY BUBBLE-BLOWER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 705,966, dated July 29, 1902.
Application filed March 19, 1902. Serial No. 98.996. (No model.)
ble-Blowers, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to a toy bubbleblower; and the essential object of the same is to produce ardevice of this class by which an indefinite number of bubbles may be formed from one filling of Water and having in connection therewith at a suitable point a soap or other saponaceous material with which the water is brought into contact from an inner reservoir included in the organization of the toy.
A further object of the improved device is to construct the several parts in such manner that they may be readily detached and assembled for convenience in cleaning or repairing.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed. y
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a bubble-blower embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through the same.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the views.
The numeral 1 designates an air-introducing element, 2 an intermediate body, and 3 a bubble-forming head. The element 1 comprises a mouthpiece 4, having an inner shoulder 5, from which a tubular stem 6 extends, and has a bore 7 continuing through the mouthpiece. The intermediate body 2 has a thickened extremity 8, against which the shoulder 5 is adapted to abut, and through said thickened extremity an opening 9 is formed, in which the stem 6 is adjustably mounted and frictionally held, a gasket or packing 10, carried by the stem, forming a water-tight joint with the wall of the opening 9. The body 2 in advance of the thickened extremity Sis formed with a reservoir or chamy ber11, which is continued completely through the opposite extremity of said body, and in the latter extremity the inner reduced end 12 of the head 3 is removably fitted and frictionally held, the said reduced end of the head also carrying an elastic or other suitable gasket or packing 13 to form a Watertight joint with the portion of the body 2 which is fitted thereover. The free end 14 of the head 3 is flared and constructed with a conical recess 15 to provide a bellmouth wherein the bubbles are formed, and within the said bell-mouth a circumferential groove 16 is constructed and'iilled with soap 1.7 or other saponaceous material. Extending from the apex ofthe conical recess 15 longitudinally through the center of the head is a bore 18 of the same dimensions as the bore 7 in the stem 6 and Vmouthpiece 4, a shallow seat 19 being formed in the center of the inner reduced end 12 of the head 3 around the bore 18 to adj ustably receive the conical reduced end 2O of the stem 6 to regulate the passage of water from the reservoir or chamber 11 into the bore 18 and from the latter into the recess 15 for .contact with the filling of soap or other saponaceous material.
It will be observed that l(he parts of the improved toy bubble-blower are held intact by frictional engagement with each other, and by this means a tight joint is not only formed, particularly in view of the gaskets or packings 10 and 13, but the expense of manufacture is materially reduced'by avoiding the formation of screw-threads. In the assemblage of the several parts of the improved device the end of the intermediate body 2,which engages the head 3, is limited in its movement over the inner reduced end 12 of said head by coming in contact with a shoulderbead or analogous stop structure 2l, so that the operator Will know when t-he body and head are properly assembled.
In preparing the bubble-blower for use the blowingelement l is iitted in the thickened extremity of the body 2 and the latter is then turned to receive a suitable quantity of water, which is poured into the reservoir or chamber 1l. ment fitted therein are held in such manner as to prevent the Water from escaping therefrom, the inner reduced end 12 of the head is While the body 2 and the blowing |elefitted in the end of the body in a manner shown by Fig. 2, and the parts will be assembled and ready for use by the operator. A small portion of the water is permitted to pass down or out through the bore 18 into the bell-mouth of the head, and after a short time and by continually replenishing the water to said bell-mouth the water will become impregnated with the soap or other saponaceous material, and the operator blowing through the mouthpiece will cause bubbles to be successively formed and liberated from the head as may be desired. The size of the bubbles can also be regulated at will and the operation of bubble-blowing can be continued as long as the supply of waterwithin thereservoir or chamber ll lasts.
The improved device will be found exceptionally effective for the purpose designed as well as amusing and convenient, and changes in the proportions and dimensions, as well as the minor details, may be resorted to Without in the least departing from the spirit of the invention. n
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A bubble-blower comprising a blowing element, a body with a reservoirtherein, and a bubble-forming head having a bell-mouth with a filling of saponaceous material, the head and blowing element having bores practically contin nous with each other.
2. A bubble-blowing toy comprising a blowing element, a body with a reservoir therein, and a bubble-forming head, the blowing element having a mouthpiece and a stem with a bore therethrough, the said stem extending through the reservoir of the body and engaging the inner end of the head and the latter provided with a bore, and a bell-mouth having a saponaceous filling.
3. Abubble-blowing toy comprising a blowing element, an intermediate body having a reservoir, and a bubble-forming head, the said parts being frictionally engaged and disposed in longitudinal alinement, the head and blowing element having bores therethrough `which are practically continuous with each other.
4. A bubble-blowing toy comprising a blowing element having a mouthpiece and a stem with a bore therethrough, the free end of the stem being reduced, an intermediate body having a reservoir through which the stem extends, and a bubble-forming head engaged by the one end of the body and having a bore therethrough and also provided with a mouth supplied with a saponaceous filling, the free end of the stem being adapted to engage the end of the head within the body.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
