v wll s. c. HAUBERG. LIQUID SEPARATOR.
(Application filed Jan. 15, 1901.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
SOPHUS CHRISTOPHER HAUBERG, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
LlQUlD-SEPARATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 705,669, dated July 29, 1902. Application filed January 15,1901. Berlal No.43,361. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOPHUs CHRISTOPHER HAUBERG, director, of 32 Tagensvej, Copenhagen, in the Kingdom of Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Relating to Liquid-Separators, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to liquidseparators; and the object is an arrangement for keeping in position the inner structure thereof. The result aimed at is to fix the said structure in such a manner that in spite of placed. Even a very slight displacement of the inner structure during the rotation would make the drum side-heavy, which might bring about a breakage of the driving-spindle and expose the attendants to the greatest danger. In balance centrifugal separatorst. a, separators in which the drum is placed looselyon the top of the driving-spindle-an absolutely firm fixing of the inner structure is of vital importance. This kindof separators, which, after all, are the only separators free from danger, may only be used in connection with inner structures if the said inner structure is firmly fixed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1. is a View in vertical section, illustrating my improvements; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on a plane through line A B of Fig. 1. p
In both figures like letters of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts.
a and I) represent, respectively, the upper and lower parts of the separator-drum, which are screwed'together. the two parts there is arranged on the inner side of the drum a groove into which a plane edge Z of the conical plate d, that carries the partitions 0, may beplaced and held when the two parts a and b are screwed tightly together. The partitions 0 have the sameconical shape as the plate 01 and are placed below this one. Below the bottom one of the partitions is arranged a thicker conical platef, of the same shape as thepartitions c and provided with a cylindrical feed-pipe g, passing up through apertures in the partitions and through a cylindrical hole in the upper part of the plate d, projecting above the upper edge of this plate. The upper part of the pipe g is screw- Between the rims of be pressed tightly against one another and against the fixed plate (1. The partitions are in well-known manner supplied with lugs or the like for preventing the conical surfaces of the partitions from lying too closely to one another. These lugs are not shown on the drawings.
When the inner structure of the separator is fastened to the'plate din the above-described manner, the edge Z of this plate may be inserted between the two parts a and b of the drum and kept in a firm position when the said parts are screwed tightly together.
The separator is, for the rest, arranged in the usual manner. The plate f is guidedby a gudgeon 7t, fixed to the bottom of the drum b and projecting into a cavity in the platef. The upper part a of the drum is at thetop terminated in a cylindrical neck m, which is provided at top andbottom with two annular plates 92 and 0. Through atube p, placed inside the part a and attached to theplate 0, the milk is led from theseparator to the space between the plates or and 0 and thence through the pipe q to the exterior. Diametrically opposite the tube p and between the plates at and 0 is placed a halfcylindrical tube 1', through which the cream that has come into the space i through the openings 8 in the con ical plate at is led up above the plate at to the exterior.
Having now particularly described and as certained the nature of this said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is-- I 1. In a separator of the character-herein so forth, in combination, a two-part outer drum, an inner conical plate, and conical partitions attached to said plate, the lower margin of the said plate being clamped between the upper and lower parts of the drum, substantially as and for the purposes explained.
2. In a separator of the character herein set forth, in combination, a two-part outer drum, an inner conical plate of which the lower margin is clamped between the two parts of the drum, conical partitions, a second conical plate Within the drum, a central feed-pipe, a nut upon the top of the latter, and a gudgeon In testimony that I claim the forgegoing as myvinvention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
