UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. SHELTON, OF MORRILL, KANSAS.
TROUSERS CLAMP AND HANG E R.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 704,940, dated July 15, 1902.
Application filed May 25, 1901- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON SHELTON, M. D., a citizen of the United States, residing at and whosepost-oflice address is Morrill, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trousers Clamps and Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trousers clamps and hangers.
The object of the invention is to providea simple and efiicient device through the medium of which all bagging at the knee and ugly wrinkles can be eitectually removed and the garment preserved, so as to t present a fresh and dressy appearance until itis practically worn out.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification and to which reference is made, Figure 1 is an elevation showing my trousers clamp and hanger applied to use, and Fig; 2 is a sectional view showing the clampingplates separated for the introduction or inser= tion of the trousers-legs between said plates.
1 1 are companion plates of any suitable material, usually of wood about one-quarter inch thick, three inches wide, and twelve inches long, The dimensions may be more or less, according to requirements or fancy. These plates are each provided at both ends with a pair of cord-openings 2 2, located one above the other, the openings of one plate registering with the openings in the other plate. A continuouscord or chain 8, forming two suspendingdoops 5, is passed through the lower openings of both boards and then upward transversely of the boards, forming clamping-loops 4 4, and crossed through the upper openings of both boards, as clearly Serial No. 61,919. (No model.)
shown in-Fig. 2. It is also obvious that a duplicate device'carrying aweight may be attached to the lower end to impart a decided strain to the fabric of the trousers, and thus remove every trace of bagging from garments already misshapen.
In order to apply my device to use, the plates are separated, as shown in Fig. 2. The garment is then carefully smoothed out and placed between the plates or jaws, when draft upon the suspending-loops causes the loops 4 a to close the jaws or plates, and thereby 5 5 clamp the fabric of the garment. The trousers are then suspended from a peg or hook by the suspending-loops, the weight of the garment serving to hold the jaws in clamping relation with the goods undertension.
It is observed that my invention may be used as a. hanger for ladies skirts furthermore, the projecting ends of the jaws afford means for hanging coats and vests thereon. The greater the Weight suspended from the jaws or clamps the firmer the grip upon the fabric of the garment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is t A garment-hanger comprising two plates each provided at both ends with a pair of cordopeningsflocated one above the other, the openings of one plate registering with the openings in the other plate,' and a single continuous cord'forming two suspending-loops extending through the lower openings of both plates and upward transversely of the boards and crossed through the upper openings of both plates.
In testimony-whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. sHnLToN.
