Be it known that I, DAVID OPPENHEIMER, a citizen of the United States; residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.

This inven tion relates to neckties, and itis not in any respect limited to any particular kind of tie, for the improvement may be incorporated in string,four-in-hand, Ascot, and other styles of ties to be worn around the neck or otherwise.

The invention includes, broadly, a tie having a plurality of exposable faces, and I use the term *exposable to more readily distinguish the novelty thereof from those ties wherein the lining or backing has a face different from the colors 01' patterns to be presented to view, but which is not exposable.

The exposable faces may be of different colors or patterns. In the present instance one side of the tie is of one color, while the opposite side thereof is of the same color, but with a stripe of a difierent shade or color extending the complete length of the same.

The invention is clearly illustrated in' the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of the tie folded on itself near the middle to show its two faces. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the tie.

The invention is not limited to any special kind of tie; but for the purpose of setting forth its advantages it is represented as consisting of a continuous strip A, having two faces, either of which may be presented out- Ward to view, said faces being differentlypatterned, colored, or designed, so that I secure in a single tie the advantages of two dissimilar ties, and, as will hereinafter appear, the improved tie costspractically no more to make than the ordinary kind having but one exposable face, and, besides this, it lasts longer because its two faces will share equally the wear to which an ordinary one-face tie is subjected.

The tie A is either to be worn in its string or four-in-hand form. For Ascot or other purposes its size and Shape will be slightly changed. Said tie in the present case has one face of a single color and the other face of a like color, With a band or stripe of a contrasting or dissimilar color or shade, and while the band may extend in any direction it is shown as running longitudinally of the tie and coextensive therewith. i

- The material-forming the tie is foldcd or doubled on itself transversely thereof to produce the laps or folds 5, extending the entire length of the tie. These laps orfolds do not extend entirely across the tie, by reason of which a longitudinal opening or space 6 is produced, through which a band 01' strip, as 7, separate or independent of the body of the tie and of a different color therefrom, maybe I o seen. This space 6, and hence the exposed portion of the strip 7, may be of any suitable width, and whileit is shown as extending lengthwise of the tie this is not essential. The strip 7 is suitably secured under the overlapping folds -say by lines of stitching, as S-the silk, thread, or the like employed being preferably of the shade of thebody of the tie. The ends of the strip 7 will be stitched or otherwise fastened between the turned-in V-pointed ends of the tie or strip A, said V ends of the latterbeing finished as is the custom with this character of articles.

T he tie shown presents two faces of a uniform color; but one of them has a stripe or band of a different color.

The invention I consider a broad one, and

it may be modified considerablypwithin the scope of the appended claims.

Referring to Fig. 2, it Will be seen. that the folds 5, which extend. lengthwise of the tie,

Having described the invention, What I claim is- 1. A reversible necktie cons'isting of a main section folded on' 4itself along its opposite edges, the folds extending partially across the ;tie and astrip of material suitable for an eX- yposed face of the tie to close the space between the edges of .said folds, the opposite edges of the folds' overlapping the opposite the exposed snrfaceof 'said strip being of a color difierent from thev exposed surfaces of said'folds and said main section and strip each being of'textile fabric.

A reversible necktie consisting of a main section folded on itself along its opposite edges, the folds extending partially across the tie and a' strip of material suitable for an ex- 'posed face of vthe tiel to close the space be- .tween the edges of said folds, the opposite edges of the folds overlapping those of said strip and being secured theretoand the exposed surface of the main section being of a uniform color and vthe exposed surface of said lstrip being also of nniforin color but di tferent from that of the main section and said main;

A reversible necktie consisting of a main section folded on itself along its opposite edges, the folds extending partially across the tie and a strip or anxiliary section of'material suitable for an exposed face of the tie closing the space between the edges of said folds` the strip'or auxiliary section extending w partially across said necktie and ,being stitched to said folds, and being of acolor different than the main sectionand both said.
