ANNIE M. JONES, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
WRIST-SUPPORTING ATTACHMENT FOR PIANOFORTES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,343, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed October 31, 1901. Serial No. 80,584. (No model.)
T0 a/ZZ whom it may conceive:
Be it known that I, ANNIE M. JONES, of Boston, in the county of Suolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVrist-Supporting Attachments for Pianofortes, of which the following-is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a simple, substantial, and easily applied and removed attachment fora pianoforte, adapted to support the wristsvof the performer at a suitable elevation above the keys.
The invention consists in the improved attachment, which I will now proceed to describe and claim.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a wrist-supporting attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view showing a portion of the keyboard of a piano and a portion of the frame beneath the keyboard and my improved attachment applied to the frame.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts in both the figures.
My improved attachment comprises two angular brackets each having horizontal portions 2 2 and vertical portions 3 3, said brackets being connected by a horizontal rod or bar 4. I prefer to make the brackets and the connecting rod or bar from a single piece of wire, bent as indicated in Fig. l. portions 2 of the brackets are loop-shaped, the sides of the loops being separated by slots or spaces of sufficient width to receive the shanks of clamping screws 5, which are passed through the said slots, the heads of the screws bearing upon the looped horizontal portions and clamping them against the under side of the portion (i of the piano-frame under the keys 7 8. My improved attachment also comprises an elongated rest il, having at its ends downwardly-projecting` arms 10,which are slidingly, connected with the vertical or standard portions 3 of the brackets, so that the rest 9 may be adjusted vertically to any desired height relatively to the keys of the piano. The sliding connection between the arms 10 and the standard portions 3 of the brackets is preferably accomplished by means of eye-blocks 12 12, affixed to the upper ends of the portions 3 and having orifices in which The horizontal the arms 10 are adapted to slide, and eyes 13 13, formed on the lower ends of the arms 10 and adapted to slide on the bracket portions ti. The rest 9 and its arms 10 10 may be secured at any position within the range of their vertical adj ustability by means of set-screws 14, engaged with the eye-blocks 12 and bearing at their inner ends against the arms 10.
When the described attachment is secured to the frame of a pianoforte, the rest 9 extends horizontally in front of the keyboard and is elevated somewhat above the level of the keys, the degree of elevation being adjustable by the means described.
The members of the looped portions 2 of the brackets may be twisted together at 15 or otherwise connected to prevent the spreading of the said horizontal portions. The inner ends of the horizontal portions 2 of the brackets are preferably widened to form eyes 16 of sufficient internal diameter to slip over the heads of the set-screws 5, so that Whenit is desired to remove the attachment from the piano this may be accomplished by loosening the set-screws and moving the brackets forward until the eyes 16 come into position to drop off from the heads of the set-screws 5.
It will be seen that the above-described con struction is very simple and inexpensive, involving, as it does, two wire parts, which, with the guides 12 and set-screws 14, constitute the entire structure.
I claim- 1. A wrist-supporter for pianofortes, comprising angular brackets having loop-shaped horizontal portions adapted to be clamped against the piano-frame under the keyboard, and vertical standard portions, provided at their upper ends with vertical guides, said brackets being formed of wire, a horizontal wire bar connecting said brackets, an elongated rest having vertical arms at its ends which are movable in said guides and are slidingly connected thereby with the standard portions of the brackets to effect a verti* cal adjustment of the rest, and means for sccuring the arms and rest at any point within the limits of their vertical adjustability.
2. A wrist-supporter for pianofortes composed of two wire parts, one part comprising` loop-shaped horizontal portions adapted to be clamped against the piano-frame under IDO the keyboard, vertical standard portions proons heights by said set-screws, the said arms Io vided at their upper endslwith vertical guides having eyes adapted to slide on said standard and with set-screws coperating with said y portions. guides, said horizontal and vertical portions In testimony whereof l have afixed my sig- 5 constituting brackets, and a horizontal pornature in presence of two Witnesses.
tion connecting said brackets, the other part ANNIE M. JONES,l comprising an elongated horizontal rest and `Witnesses: vertical arms at its ends adapted to move in R. WV. JONES,
said `guides and to be secured therein at vari- 1 C. F. BROWN
