UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
JOHN PETTENGILL, JEFFERSON, MAINE.
DISH-WASHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 703,460, dated July 1, 1902.
' Application filed February 27,1902. Serial No- 96,021. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN PETTENGILL,a citi-' zen of the United States, residing at J efferson, Maine, have invented certain Improvements in Dish-Washers; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and ex act description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the 'art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in dish washers in which the articles to be washed are contained in a vessel which is to be rotated in an inclosing vessel.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved dish-washer with the dish-receptacle Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line of the bottom of the dishreceptacle.
In said drawings similar letters designate corresponding parts throughout, referring to which A represents the inclosing vessels, in which is contained the water for Washing the dishes or other articles, preferably of circular form about the proportionalfsize illustrated, provided with a central socket O to receive the spindle or post D. i f
B indicates the inner vessel or dish-receiver,
I with a perforated bottom, provided with the spindle or post D, which turns in said socket and is attached to said dish-receptacle at a bridge K, running across the upper edge of said dish-receptacle, and which is fitted with a handle E, whereby it will beseen that the.
about the-inner side of the water-receptacle A are a number of "ertical flanges or lips H, extending at an acute angle from the inner side of the exterior vessel A, nearly engaging with'the flanges G, and being placed in diverse direction from the flanges G.
In the practice of my invention I prefer to detachably connect the post or spindle D, so as to enable the operator to remove the dishreceptacle, if desired. The result obtained by extending the lips or flanges on both vessels and rotating the inner vessel is to turn the centrifugal force of the water coming in contact with the extended flanges or lips of the exterior receptacle into a reverse current through the slots of the interior vessel and to bring a strong force of water to bear upon the articles to be cleaned.
vided on its inner sides with vertical flanges extending at an angle therefrom,a socket mounted centrally in the receptacle, a bridge across the top of said receptacle provided with a bearing, in combination with a dish-holding receptacle having a perforated bottom and providedwith vertical slots in its side wall, lips or flanges extending outwardly from the .slots at an acute angle and in opposite directions from the flanges upon the inner wall of the'outer receptacle, said inner receptacle being mounted on a shaft, said shaft being provided with a handle, substantially as set forth.
JoHN-PETTENGILL.
