JOSEPH J. DE LONG, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,164, dated May 27, 1902.
Application filed January 3, 1901. Serial No. 41,960. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPrI J. DE Lone, a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, Kings county, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shade-Roller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates especially to devices employed for holding shade-rollers in place in or upon a window-frame, and has for its object the provision of a cheap, neat, and simple bracket which may be readily and easily applied to a window-frame and the two opposite brackets adjusted and held in proper relation to each other to insure a horizontal position of the roller and shade.
To attain the desired end, my invention consists, essentially, in certain novel and useful combinations or arrangements of parts and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which willbe hereinafter first fully described and then pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, Figure 1 is a !plan View of the bracket-holder or base-plate with the bracket removed. Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 are like views of the bracket for holding the opposite spindles of the shade-roller. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a reversible bracket which may be used at either extremity of the roller. Fig. 5 isaside elevation of the bracket shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a view of the parts assembled together. I
Similar numerals of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
1 is the bracket-holding or base plate having at each side a turned edge or lip 2, forming slideways for a bracket-plate.
3 is a perforation for the reception of a nail or screw near one extremity of the plate 1, and 4 is a slot cut in said plate opposite to the perforation 3. I
5 is a bracket having at one extremity a projection 6, provided with a socket S for the square shade-roller spindle and near the opposite extremity a perforation 7.
The plate shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings has a projection 10, provided with a perforation 9 for the reception of the round spindle of ashade-roller. In Fig. i the plate 11 is provided with projections at each end, having the socket 8 and perforation 9 therein, respectively, the object of this arrangement being to provide a bracket-plate which may be reversed in position in the holding-plate, as required by the roller-bearin g wherewith such bracket-plate is to be employed.
When constructed and arranged in accordance with the foregoing description, my invention is used in the following manner: Plates 1 are secured upon each side of the window-frame by a single nail or screw passing through the perforations 3. The requisite bracket-plate is pushed into position therein, and after vertical adjustment a single nail or screw is applied through the perforation 7 and the slot 4, these two nails or screws being all that-is required to firmly secure the brackets in place.
It will thus be seen that my invention obviates the moving of the nails or screws holding the brackets in order to secure perfect and proper vertical adjustment, and only two such nails or screws are required in each bracket, avoiding the mutilation of the woodwork of the window-frame by the withdrawal of the fastening devices when the original adjustment is inaccurate and also enabling the most unskilful user to apply the brackets in position.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A shade-roller bracket in which is comprised a base-plate having a slideway therein formed by turning over the edges of the material, and a single perforation, and a slot for the passage of a holding screw or nail, in combination with a movable bracket-piece for the reception of a shade-roller bearing arranged to engage in the slideway, the said bracket-piece having an opening for the reception of a retaining screw or nail which registers with the slot in the base-plate.
2. A shade-roller bracket in which is comprised a base-plate having a slideway therein ing for the reception of a retaining screw or I being provided with an opening for the renail which registers with the slot in the base- I ception of a holding nail or screw, which also plate. passes through the base or holding plate.
' 3. A shade-roller bracket in which is oom- Signed by me at New York this 27th day 5 prised a base or holding plate havinga slideof December, 1900.
way therein formed by turning over the edges of the material, and a single perforation for JOSEPH DE LONG the passage of a holding nail or screw, in Witnesses:
combination with a bracket-piece arranged GEO. H. HARMAN, 10 to take in the slideway, said bracket-piece l A. M. PIERCE.
