JEAN ALE SPECIFICATION forming part of Application filed March 14, 1901. Sari To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEAN ALEXANDRE LA- GGTE, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented a new and useful Improvement in or Relating to Machines for Treating Vegetable-Stems, which improvement is fully set fort-h in the following specification.
The present invention relates to a new machine for stripping and preparing vegetable stems, such as ramie-stems and the like, preparatory to spinning.
In order to render the following explanation as clear as possible, a machine according to this invention is represented in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a part-sectional view in elevation of the machine, one of the lateral brackets being removed in order to show the inte- Fig. 2 is a plan view of the machine. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the rior parts.
driving-gear.
The machine comprises twogrooved rollers The upper roller ct is mounted in movable bearings l), which can be adjusted by The object of this arrangement is to vary the distance between means of screws 0.
the two rollers Ct at.
The vegetable-stems are introduced into the machine over the plate or guide cl and pass between the two grooved rollers a a, which in carrying them forward break the wood in the interior of the skin of the stems into small pieces without, however, breaking the external longitudinal fibers. stems pass between grinders or rubbing de Each of these devices consists of two end plates with four radiating arms f. The arms of one of the brackets are connected to the corresponding arms of the other bracket by means of rods g, provided with vices e e.
a loose sleeve or tube of much greater internal diameter than the XANDRE LAOCTE,
Thence the h, which sleeves are diameter of the rods g, so as to hang loosely thereon and to be pressed laterally relatively to the rods by the action of the stems passing between the rubbing devices. The sleeves Letters Patent No. 701,057,
al No. 51,109. (1% model.)
' h of one of the devices Fig. 1, between two arms of the other grinder, so as to intercalate, and the devices having opposite rotatory movements the sleeves 7L grind or rub against the vegetable-stems as they rotate, detaching thereby the fragments of broken wood produced by the action of the In this way sliders or or stems are obtained, the ligneous parts having been completely removed.
The transmission of m in the following manner: ed upon a shaft j, carrying a sprocket-wheel r which a chain 1 passes, which transhe movement to a pinion m, the shaft of the inner grinder e. extremity of this shaft is a spur-wheel 0, which engages with a wheel 19, fixed on the shaft of the other grinder 6, thereby efiecting the opposite rotation. of Moreover, a toothed wheel (1 is keyed on the main shaft j, which engages with a wheel 0, mounted upon the shaft 3 of the inner roller a. This shaft 3 carries at one of its ends a toothed wheel to, which engages with a wheel a, ed upon the shaft of the other roller a, thus producing the opposite movement of the two grooved rollers a 0/.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is In a machine for treating vegetable-stems, a pair of oppositely-revolving rubbing d constructed of radial arms connec by parallel rods, and tubes or sleeves of rather greater internal diameter than the rods, and hanging loosely on the same so as to have a certain lateral motion relatively to the rods, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this the presence of two s rollers a 0..
