Description
gleiten tetes @einer @fge IMPROVED CAR-REPLAGER.
@lgs flgrbnle nient tuin tlgrsc trttns atnt mit making part ai tte time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, A. G. BLACK, of Wooster, State of Ollio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Railroad Tracks; and I declare the following to be a. full, true, and exact description of' the A some, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marlied thereon.
Figure 1 represents a. plan view of my track.
Figure l2 is :1n inverted view of the bed-piece.
Letter A represents common railroad rails, which are secure to the cross-ties B. Letter C represents the bed-piene, to which the shifting rails aire nttnehedlV This bed is formed of' hard wood, so es to be ns light and portable as possible, `and is' furnished with the iron cross-pieces D for the mils to rest on,*so :is to prevent abrasion. Running at right angles wit-h this bed is n number of slots, F, whichextend throughthe bed, for the purpose of allowing the rails n lateral ploy. Letter E represents the shifting rails, which are secured to the bed-piece C by means ofthe bolts y, which extend down through the slots and :tresecuredls seen in fig. 2) so as to prevent the mil from being rn-ised out of its platee. The ends ofthese rails nre bevelled oY, sons to allow the locomotive or cnrs to poss the more freely upon them. When it is necessary :L slnbrnil, H, may be bolted on to the ends of' the shifting rails E, so as to make the rails extend outward more over the main track. By the use of the slotted hedpieee C the mils E can be shifted to thev desired :ingle (when not large) without the trouble or necessity of moving the whole arrangement.
The mannerof using my truck is :is follows: When the locomotive or curs have been thrown of? or displaced from the track the bed is placed :it such :in :ingle from the truck that the cnrs cnn be rendily drawn or forced upon the shifting rails E. As the ends of' the snid rails rest upon the main truck, (as shown in fig. 1,) the ears can then be readily and evenly replaced upon the proper track.
Hoving thus described my invention, what I clni1n,nnd desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I claim the shifting rnil E, when provided with the bolts g, in combination with `the bed-piece C und slab; rnil- II, substzintinlly :is und for the purpose set forth.
` Witness my hund this twenty-ninth day of June, A. D. 1857.
Witnesses:
Gno. H. LnnnAN, HENRY LBHMAN.
ALFRED G. BLACK.
