Be it known that I, SILAS SLOAT, of Morgan, inthe county' of Ashtabula, and State of Ohio, have invented a. new and improved Horse-Shoe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention relates to a new and improved horseshoe, and it consists in constructing the same with a yiew to its ready attachment to and detachment from the hoof, and to accomplishthis end without the employnient of nails. i

The object of the invention is to obtain a means whereby any person of ordinary ability may apply a shoe to the hoot' of a horse, and detach it therefrom, without the aid of ashoer or smith, and also obtain a shoe which -rlnay be'appliekd to a diseased or defective lhoof without injuring the same. In the accompanying sheet of drawingsi Figure 1 is e side view of my invention, applied to the hoot` of a horse.

A represents the horse-shoe, which is made substantially the same as those in common use, and provided v with toe and heel-calks abb. This shoe is iitted within a flange, B, which is of T-form' in its transverse section,

the shoe being secured tothe under side of the horizontal portion cof the flange by screws d, as shown clearly vin figs. 5 and 6. The lower edge of the upright portion e of the langeis iush with 'the under surface of the shoe, and to the inner side of this portion e, above e, there are secured, by rivetsf or otherwise, two pieces of leather C C, the front ends of'which are connected at the front of the hoot' by a leather strap or thong, g, passing through metallic loops D D, secured to 'the leather pieces C C. These pieces of'lcather C C extend entirely around the wall ofthe hooffand to the upper part of each piece C ot`.leatlier there is attached an elastic metal strip or' bar, E, the front ends of the latter being secured to" the leather by rivets g. These strips or bars E extend to the rear edges ofthe leather pieces C, and have each an eye, h, at the rear end, through which a strap, F, passes,'and each strip cr bar has a lateral projection or spur, t', and these projections or spurs pass through the leather pieces JC C into the wall ot'fthe'hoot', and are kept therein by the strap F. To the rear part of each piece'C there is attached a'metal bar, j, having a lip, 7c. These lips extend over the upper edges of E to keep the rear parts of C C upward in proper position. By this simple means the sho'e is firmly secured t'o the hoot` without the aid of nails, and the shoe may be readily applied and detached. When the shoe becomes worn it may, without any ditliculty whatever, be readily unscrewed from the flange B" and repaired, or replaced by a new one. The invention also admits of a. shoe'being applied to a defective hoot', which will not admit of having a 'shoe nailed "to it, and the horse used without any injury or risk.
