UNrrno STAT NELS P. PEARSON, OF BROOKTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 699,809, dated May 13, 1902.
Application filed September 11, 1901. Serial No. 75,071- (No model) To all whom it nmy concern:
Be it known that I, NELs P. PEARSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Perforating Machines; and I do hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to perforating-machines for punching draft-holes through the tips of cigars; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a longitudinal section through the perforatingmachine, showing the upper part slid back. Fig. 2 is a plan View, and Fig. 3 is an end view.
A is a base-plate provided with a channel I), which is shaped of the outline of half a cigar and which has a pointed end portion.
B is a plug of soft material let into the pointed-end portion of the channel for the perforator to come down onto when in its working position.
0 is a guide provided with a base-plate c, which is slidable longitudinally on the baseplate A and which is provided with a slot 0, arranged longitudinally and in line with the I channel I).
D is a clamping-screw for securing the guide to the base-plate A, and (Z is a guide-block for the slot 0 to slide over. The base-plate E is aplunger, which is slidable in the guide 0, and e is the operating-knob at the top of the plunger.
F is a spring between the guide and the knob for holding the plunger in its raised position.
G is a tubular perforator, which projects from the lower end of the plunger, and g is a hole in the side of the plunger which communicates with the tubular perforator.
The base-plate c and the guide 0 are slid longitudinally, so that the perforator may come in any desired position over the pointedend portion of the cigar in the channel, and the guide is then clamped in position; The holes are punched by pressing down the plunger, and the punchings rise up through the tubular perforator and pass out of the hole in the side of the plunger.
What I claim is- In a cigar-perforating machine, the combination ,with a base-plate provided with a channel having a pointed-end portion, of a longitudinally-adjustable guide provided with a notched flange which projects longitudinally from its lower part over the pointed-end portion of the said channel and engages with the tip of the cigar, and a plunger provided with a perforator and sliding vertically in the said guide over the pointed-end portion of the said channel, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELS P. PEARSON.
