WISNER & ROSE.
Broom Head.
Patented Oct. .15, 1867.

@with 13125 l-Htwt @ffice JOELWISNER, OF AURORA, ANI) TIMOTHY ROSE, OF OORTLANDVILLE, NEW YORK.
' Letters Patent No. 69,884, dated October 15, 1867.
IMPROVED BRooM-HEAD.
dite -flgetnle nitriet tn in tigen tettef @anni :mt uniting part nf tige same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
.Be it known that we, JOL WISNER, of Aurora, in the county of Erie, in the State of New York, and TIMOTHY ROSE, of Cortlandville, in the county of Cortland, and State aforesaid, have invented a new and useful Improve-v nient in the Manufacturing of Brooms; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, c1ear,and exact description of such improvement. reference being had to the annexed drawings, which are made a 'part of this specification. v l
a is a tin case, for holding the brush or corn. At the upper end of this is fitted a wooden block, b, held in place by a'serew at c, and extending down into such case te the point representedby the dotted line m. z'is a portion 'ot' the broom-handle, which may be a part of the block b, or a 'separate handleinserted into the said block. y is abolt, passing through thel case, with a thumb-screw,f, upon each end. Upon the inside of the case, on either side` of the broom, is placed an extra plate of' tin or metal, as shown at o, and covering a space indicated by the dotted lines s s. After thebrush is put in, which is done by simply laying in suicient to ill the case a, the holt g is put in, and the thumb-screws screwed down then conical pins d d, long enough to pass by each other in the centre of the broom, aredrivenin through holes for that purpose in the case. The bolt g,
by having a thumb-screw upon each end, maybe screwed down v-ery closely, and still the ends of the bolt be.
guarded from catching upon clothing,'whieh is a. great disadvantage of thc bolt with but a single screw-end. The extra plate on the sides and within the case gives firmness to the case, and the pins d d act like wedges when driven in, and hold the brush in connection with the bolt g firmly in place, without cord oiwire or any other aid. Upon the'handle 1,' is a.' metal tube extending beyond and above the handle 1', forming a socket, into which the other portion ofi the handle k is fitted, thus forming a compoii'nd handle, which is readily disconnected or put together, as the exigencies of transportation or use may require.
What-we claim, and desirerto secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination ofthe screwfbolt g with thumb-screw 'upon each end, and the side or conical pins dd with the rnetal cap or case for holding the brush or corn, as above described, and for the purpose set forth. l
f TIMOTHY RosE,
JOEL WISNER.
