IMPROVEMENT IN CARRIAGE-TONGUE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 69,805, dated October 15,1867.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMPSON HEATON, of' Farmington, in the county of Fulton and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Method of .Making a Carriage-Tongue Holder or Coupling for Neck-Yoke and (larriage-Pole; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference thereon. a
The nature of my invention consists in attaching the leather tongue-holder to the neckyoke in such a manner that while it is noiseless and secure in its attachments it is not liable to get out of order.
To enable others skilled in the art to makeand use my invention, I will now describe its construction and mode of operation.
Of any of the approved forms, I make the wooden neck-yoke a, Figure 1, and at the mi ddle I securely fasten or insert a metallic staple, b, to project on the lower side just far enough to admit the proper thickness of the leather tongue-holder c. I make the holder of doubled and stitched leather of suitable quality and thickness, and at the upper end, where the leather is passed through the staple, I insert a metallic roller or lining, d, Fig. 2, which receives, and in which works, the staple b, making a Well-fitted loose joint of the coupling'between the leather holder and the neckyoke, and thus avoiding the noise and wear of an iron holder, or a leather one which passes around the neck-yoke.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following only, viz:
The metallic staple and roller or lining in upper end of leather holder, with the form of the holder, all in the combination and for the uses herein substantially as set forth.
