Bo it knOAWll that Lil'. T. GREEN, of Marquette, county of Green Lake, and State of Wisconsin, have invented'1 a new and useful Improvement'in Combining Door-Plates and-Letter-Boxcs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,- and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, in which-'- v "QFigure 1 is a vertical section through the door-plate, door, anflletter-box on line n: :z: of fig. 2.

The nature of Vmy invention isv to provide a door-plate which, while answering the ordinary purposes of such, has also arrangements for additional names for additional occupants of the house constructed so as to be changeable, and to answer, also, as a removable' covering for an opening beneath it througlrthe door into a letter-box` attached to the inside of the door, which letter-box has also special devices to render it thief-proof and convenient for use..

- A is the door, provided with theinclined slot or opening B, over which is attached the door-plate C, so as to turn on a pivot, r, at the outer end of the arm c, which-admits of its being raised by the knob d to tl1e.posi tion shown inV red outline in iig. 3 to admit of the'insertidnlf letters, papers, Ste., from the outside, the plato returning to a'closed position again by its own gravity, assitedfifnecessary, by the action of'aJspr-ing, c. To prevent the abstraction of letters, tc., from without through the slot B, the bok is provided with the shield or guard-plates E, one of which is attached to the door A and the 'other to the box H. The loiverfedges of these guardslare notched or scrratedas shown in iig. 4, `to prevent theV letters being withdrawnby means of a. hook and line or other, grappling device attached to a string and dropped into the box from the outside; such string dropping 'into onefot' the notches formed lby the teeth e e the -witbdrawal of a letter or other object caught by the grapple would be eifectually prevented. The door-plate is provided with the ornamental portion a upon which to place the Anumber of the house. The large solid panel g is to contain the permanent name of the proprietor of the house. Therevare also additional sliding panels b b b b provided for names ofother occupants or tenants of the same buildirig.
