FOLDING HEAD-REST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 697,752, dated April 15, 1902.
Application filed October 31,1901. $e1'ia1No- 80,6B1. (No model.) v
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLF RIKLI, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residing and having my post-office address at Eisenwerk Olus, near Balsthal, Switzerland, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Folding Head-Rest, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a folding head-rest for use during journeys, picnics, and the like and consisting of a folding frame over which a strip of cloth is stretched to support the head.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the head-rest open. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the head-rest in its folded condition.
The head-rest comprises two inverted-U- shaped supports a, to each of which one end of the strip of cloth 1), serving as the actual support for the head, is fastened. The said supports a can be held in a position in which the strip of cloth I) is stretched by means of two pairs of pivoted bars 0 0. One end of each bar 0 is pivoted to one of the arms of the supports a, and the other end of each bar a engages a pin d on the opposite support a. The upper ends of each pair of bars 0 are connected with the upper ends of the other pair of bars 0 'by means of cross-bars e.
When the head-rest is not in use, the bars 0 are disengaged from the pins (1 and the supports a are folded inward and the bars 0 downward, so that the head-rest is given a flat shape, in which it can be easily packed, Fig. 3. When the supports a are folded, the pins d move in slotsfin the bars 0.
WVhat I claim is- A folding head-rest comprising in combination two inverted- U-shaped supports, a strip of material connected at each end to one of said supports, two pairs of bars adapted to keep the supports at a distance for distending the material, each pair of bars being pivoted together, and each separate bar pivoted at one end to one of the supports and at the other provided with slots adapted to engage pins on the opposite support, and cross-bars connecting the upper ends of each pair of bars, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two Witnesses.
ADOLF RIKLI.
