HECTOR L. MATTON, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
HEAD OF PlLE-WIRE FOR LOOMS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 697,263, a e April 8, 1902.
Application filed January 23,1902. Serial No. 90,969. (No model.)
To aZZ 11/72/0172, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HECTOR L. MATToN, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heads of Pile-Wires for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pile-wires, and has for its object to provide a head which may be easily and quickly detached or connected to the wire.
Another object of this invention is to provide a head of a pile-wire for a loom which is simple, inexpensive, durable, compact, and unique, one in which the connection between the head and wire is made substantial and rigid.
WVith these objects in View and such others as may hereinafter appear my invention consists in the particular construction of the various parts and in the novel manner of combination and arrangement of said parts, all of which will be more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
I am aware that a head of a pile-wire for looms similar in shape and form to my invention is now in use. However, the head in present use is brazed to the wire, thus causing the wire after it has been employed for a short time to break at the point of connection, and thereby rendering both the wire and head useless. My invention is designed to obviate this difficulty; and to this end I provide a head which does not weaken the wire at the point of connection; also, a head which maybe detached from a broken wire and 0011- veniently connected to a new wire.
In the drawings forming apart of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view'of my improved pile-wire head, showing the wire secured therein. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the head proper. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the plate for securing the wire and head together. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the plate ready for use. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a portion of the wire, showing the bent end.
Referring by letters to the drawings, A represents the head proper, which consists of a fiat plate having an aperture 13 in one end thereof adapted to receive a hook, such as is employed for supporting the pile-wires in a loom, and the usual guide 0 upon the opposite end. This head is provided with a slot D, terminating in a recess E, and cut-away portions on each side thereof, as plainly shown at F, in the center of which is an aperture G, the object of which will be hereinafter explained.
In connection with the head I employ a plate H, which is semicircular in shape. This plate is notched, as shown at I, so as to form corre sponding flanges J, and is further provided with corresponding apertures K and L, the flanges and apertures registering, respectively, with each other when the plate is bent upon itself, as shown in Fig. 4..
In carrying my invention into effect a wire M is provided with a bent end portion N. This wire is placed in the slot D, with its bent end portion engaging the recess or notch E. The plate H is then placed over the wire and forced into position, the sides of the plate ongaging the cut-away portion F, thus becoming flush with the sides of the head, the apertures K therein registering with the aperture G in the head and the apertures L registering with the aperture 0 in the wire, after which rivets are placed through the registering apertures and made secure. The flanges J are then bent down upon the edge of the head, thus forming a collar around the wire.
I deem the foregoing explanation suffrciently plain that the invention will be readily understood by all conversant in such matters, the extreme simplicity rendering an elaborate description unnecessary.
Having thus described the various features of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a pile-wire for looms, a head having a slot therein, a recess at the end of said slot,- cut-away portions upon each side of the head adjacent to the slot, a wire having a bent end engaging the slot and recess, a semicircular plate bent centrally upon itself adapted to fit snugly over the said wire, apertures in the plate registering with apertures in the head and wire, rivets secured in the said apertures, flanges upon the plate adapted to be bent so as to form a collar around the wire, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a pile-wire for looms, a head having a' slot therein, a recess at the end of said slot, Wire, and rivets passing through the said cut-away portions upon each side of the head, plate, wire and head, substantially as shown a wire having a bent end, the said wire enand for the purpose set forth.
gaging the said slot and recess, a semicircular HECTOR L. MATTON. 5 plate folded upon itself, the said plate adapted Witnesses:
to fit snugly over the Wire, flanges upon the HARRY H. HOLLANDER,
said plate adapted to form a collar around the B. A. LEWIS.
