DE'LlVERY TABLE FOR PRlNTlNG -PRESSES.
SEEGIFIGAEION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,818, dated April 1, 1902. Application filed July 1851901. Serial No. 68,767. No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD MARTIN How- ELL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Delivery-Tables for Printing-Presses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to delivery mechan- IO ism of cylinder printing-presses; and its object is to provide a new and improved delivery-table arranged to permit of conveniently and quickly adjusting the joggerboards for properly piling the printed sheets I 5 of any desired size.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference inclicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a plan View of the improvement. Fig. 2 is an enlarged front elevation of one of the jogger-boards and the support therefor, parts being in section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the 0 same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan View of the same on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
On the under side of thefiy-table A are arranged the longitudinal guideways B B and the transverse guideways B B on each of which is held adjustablya slide O,adapted to be fastened to the guideways by a set-screw C, and on the inner end of each slide 0 is removably secured a support or post D by a locking-plate E.
On the several supports or posts D are held the end jogger-boards F F and the side joggerboards F F the said joggerboards standing at right angles to their correspond- 5 ing guideways B B B B as will be readily understoodby reference to Fig. 1.
the boards F F F F is held adjustably on its support or post in the direction of its length, so that the boards may be adjusted 5o to inclose alargeror smaller space, according Each of to the size of the sheets printed by the printing-press at the time being.
The lower end of each post or support D is formed into a fork D, which straddles a cutout portion 0 on the slide 0, and on the upper portion of the support D is formed 2. lug D fitting into an elongated slot F formed on a plate F secured to the outer face of the corresponding jogger-boards F F F F In each support D also screws a thumb- 6o screw D extending through the slot in the plate to extend and screw into a nut D, held to slide freely in a recess F formed in the outer face of the corresponding jogger board, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 2 and 3.
By the arrangement described the nut D is held against turning in the recess F and when it is desired to adjust a jogger-board in the direction of its length then the operator 7o simply loosens the thumb-screw D and then slides the jogger-board along on the nut and the lug D and when the desired position has been reached then the operator screws up the thumb-screw D to securely clamp the jogger- 7 5 board F, F, F or F to its corresponding support or post D.
Thelocking-plate E, previously mentioned, is fulcrumed on the top of the slide O at E, and it is adapted to engage with its inner 8o beveled end a correspondingly-shaped lug D formed on the support D at the fork D there of. (See Figs. 3 and 4.) By swinging the locking-plate E outward, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 4, the inner end of the plate moves out of engagement with the lug D to allow of moving the support or post out of the cut-out portion C of the slide 0. When the plate E is in the locking position, then it is fastened down in position on the slide by a go thumb-screw E In order to conveniently move the locking-plate, I prefer to provide the free end thereof with a suitable handle E From the foregoing it is evident that the slides can be readily adjusted on the guide- 5 ways B, B, B and B in the direction of the length of the guideways, and the joggerboards F, F, F, or F can be readily ad justed in the direction of their length on the supports or posts D, and when it is desired 10o to remove one of the jogger-boards and its post then'the operator simply unlocks the locking-plate and swings the same outward to unlock the post D, so that the operator can move the same off the slide, and with it the jogger-board. The opposite j ogger-boards have movement toward and from each other corresponding to the action of the fly, and for this purpose the usual mechanism (not shown) is provided to impart the desired movement to the guideways and for properly piling the sheets after the same are delivered by the fi y.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a delivery-table, a series of posts adjustable radially thereon, andjogger-boards clamped to said posts and adjustable longitudinally thereon, said jogger-boards being also adjustable with the posts and occupying an abutting and overlapping relation one to the other, whereby the jogger-boards are adapted to form a paperreceiving space of any dimensions within the limits of the jogger-boards.
2. The combination of a delivery-table having radial guideways, a series of posts adjustable in said guideways and provided with means for holding the same in place, a single group of jogger-boards mounted on the posts for adjustment therewith and each joggerboard adjustable in the direction of its length on said post said jogger-boards arranged in abutting and overlapping relation and forming a paper-receiving space or chamber which is closed on all sides, and means for clamping each jogger-board firmly to one post.
3. The combination with a table, and a slide, of a post removably fitted to the slide, a locking-plate carried by the slide and having interlocking engagement with the post, and a jogger-board said locking-plate serving to hold the post in a rigid predetermined position relative to the slide and against any tendency to lateral displacement under the wear incident to service.
4. The combination with a table, and a slide, of a post fitted to said slide and having a lug, a locking-plate pivoted to the slide and adapted to engage said lug, means for clamping the locking-plate in position, and a jogger-board.
5. A delivery-table having suitable guideboards may be brought into abutting and overlapping relation one with the other and to form a paper-confining space of any area within the limits of the jogger-boards.
6. A delivery table having intersecting guideways, slides adjustable in said guideways, upstanding posts removably secured on said slides, a locking device carried by each slide and having interlocking engagement with one post for locking the latter in a rigid predetermined position relative to said slide, and a group of jogger-boards mounted individually on said posts and disposed in abutting and overlapping relation.
7. A delivery-table having an adjustable post provided with a lug, a jogger-board having a recess, a slotted plate attached to the jogger-board and receiving the lug ofsaid post, a nut confined in the recess of the jogger-board, and a thumb-screw supported by the post and engaging said nut.
8. In a delivery-table, asingle group of jogger-boards disposed in abutting and overlapping relation and forming an inclosed paperreceiving space which is closed on all sides, combined with a table, and supporting devices adjustable radially on said table; said jogger-boards being adjustable with the supports and also capable of independent endwise adjustment on said supports.
9. In a delivery-table,the combination with a carrier-slide and an upstanding post removably mounted on said slide, of a separate locking device connected with said slide and With the post and holding the latter in a rigid predetermined position relative to the slide, and a jogger-board supported on the post.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.-
EDWARD MARTIN HOWELL. WVitnesses:
