JOHN ADAM GOETZ,YOF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
REFRESHMENTMRECEPTACLE AND BOUTONNIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,631, dated April 1, 1902. Y Application led July 22, 1901. Serial No. 69,286. (No model.)
To @ZZ Lvl/1,0791! it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN ADAM GoETZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Refreshment- Receptacles and Boutonnires, of' which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful .improvements in artificial flowers, and more particularly to that class of artificial flowers which are used for the purpose of serving with ices, sherbets, creams, custards, bonbons, sweetmeats,. and other toothsome dainties.
A further object of my invention is the provision of novel means whereby the guests of the banquet, reception, or other social function may at the close of the refreshmentperiod detach a boutonnire with one or more buds containing favors, paper caps or hoods, and mottoes from the stem of' the rose or other flower containing the ices, sherbets, bonbons, or toothsome dainties and retain the boutonnire as a souveni'r.
Furthermore, my invention aims to produce simple and efficient meansfor the removal of the cup or other receptacle containing the ices, sherbets, or other previouslymentioned dainties, whereby the same maybe prepared for reuse.
Vith these and other objects in ,View my invention further consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts to be clearly described in the following specification and fully set forth in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, Figure l is a top plan viewtof my invention in its complete forni, showing the rose-stem with a piece of tubing fastened to it, illustrating the manner of connecting theboutonniere tothe stem of the rose. Fig.V 2 is a perspective view of' one form of detached boutonnire, showing the favor secreted therein. Fig. 3 is a like view of anotherform of boutonniere. Fig. 4: is a central sectional view of the completed device; and Fig. 5 is a perspectivo view of the stom of the rose, showing the manner of securing the cup or receptacle and the manner of detachably securing the boutonnire.
In the practice of my invention I provide a rose, chrysanthemum,` or other artificial flower, having the usual number of leaves l, with a stem composed of a plurality of lengths or Vstrands of wire 2, which are bent outwardly, as at 3, and then bent up to form iingers 5, grasping the periphery of the case or cup 4E.
The reference-numeral 4 indicates the cup, case, or receptacle, which may be composed of porcelain, pasteboard, or other material, in which are to be placed the ices, sherbets, bonbons, or other toothsome dainties. In the drawings I have shown this case or receptacle of a substantially circular form 5 but of course I wish to have it understood that any other convenient formsuch as triangular, diamond shape, rectangular, or other symmetrical ones-may be employed, according to the taste of the caterer or host or hostess. A rubber or other covering 6 is adapted to incase the wires 2.
The reference-numeral 7 indicates a tube of any suitable material secured in a suitable manner to the stem of the rose, near the handle 8 thereof. The stem of the boutonnire 9 is divested of its covering at the end thereof which is to be detachably inserted in the tube 7.
The herein-described rose is to remain the property of the caterer, confectioner, or other person, and it is evident that the same may be used any number of times. The boutonnire, the stem of which is composed of the single strand of wire, is inserted into and held in position by the tubing fastenedalongside the stem of the rose or other flower. One or more buds are provided in which are secreted in a compact form the paper caps, mottoes, favors, or other souvenirs. A strip lO is secured to these and has one end thereof projecting, which end is adapted to be grasped by the fingers, thereby removing the contents.
When it is desired to use my invention at social functions, a separate cup ll may be placed in position in the case or rose. The
ices, sherbets, bonbons, and other toothsome dainties are placed therein. The boutonnire is attached by means of thc strand of wire in- IOO serted into the tube and the completed device laid flat upon the table at the cover of each guest. Upon the completion of the refreshments the guest removes by simply pulling the boutonnire from the tubing on the stem of the rose, which boutonnire is to be'retained by the guest as a souvenir, the rose and the receptacle remaining the property of the caterer or confectioner to be used again.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim to be new and useful, and desire to obtain by Letters Patent, is
l. In combination With an artificial flower carrying a piece of tubing andaboutonnire the stem of which is detachably inserted in said tubing, a cup or receptacle, a stem composed of a plurality of Wires, the said cup or receptacle being grasped by the said Wires substantially as described.
2. In a device ofthe character described, a
cup or receptacle, a stem composed of a plurality of wires, the ends of said Wires adapted to grasp said` cup or receptacle, a piece of tubing carried by said stem, and a boutonnire detachably secured in said tubing and extending beyond the said cup or receptacle, substantially as described.
3. In combination with an artificial flower, a cup or receptacle, a stem composed of a plurality of strands or lengthsof Wire, the ends of said strands being bent to form fingers adapted to grasp said cup or receptacle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
JOHN ADAM GOETZ.
