WASHING IWACHINE.
SIEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,909, dated March 25, 1902.
Application filed May 17,1901. Serial. No. 60,734. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALONZO A. OASLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Washing-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in washing-machines, and particularly to that class which embodies a rotating tub provided with rubbing-cleats and a separate rubbingdisk suspended in and separate from the tub.
The object of this invention is to simplify and perfect this class of washing-machines, at the same time to so construct the machine that it will be cheap, durable, and eificient in operation.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combinations and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved machine, showing the suds-tub and upper rubbing-disk in section, the base in elevation. Fig. 2 is a top view showing the construction of the frame, hinged arm, and mode of attaching the springs. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of upper rubbing-disk, showing the locking-bar to prevent the disk from turning with the rotation of the suds-tub. Fig. 4 shows a vertical sectional view of portion of upper rubbingdisk to show more fully the arrangement and construction of the vertical sleeve and rubupward and above the top of the suds-tub E. Secured to the inner face and about three inches above the upper edge of the tub is the hinge-block F. To the outer end of the same is hinged by the hinge Gr the horizontal arm H. The said arm is reinforced upon the lower side and at the loose end, through which is a center round opening I to receive the vertical guide-rod J. The said rod extends downward and engages within the vertical sleeve K, forming a portion of the upper rubbingdisk L. The upper end of the guide-rod is provided with a hand-hole M. Secured upon the upper end of the vertical sleeve K is the ring N, provided with a projecting pin 0, one upon each side and on a line with the center. Upon the said pins is pivoted the locking-bar P. The said bar is composed of a rod having its lower end formed into an in- Verted-U-shaped loop, and an eye Q, formed upon each end to engage and pivot the same upon the pins 0, as shown in Fig. 4E. Secured upon one edge of the hinge-block F is an eye bolt B, through which passes the loose end of the brace P.
It will be readily seen by those skilled in the art when the upper rubbing-disk is raised barP will slide through the eyebolt R, allowing a perfect adjustment to the same.
In Fig. 1 I show a locking device which is composed of a curved lever S, pivoted in the vertical post 0. The curved end when the tub is locked engages an eye-plate T, secured upon the side and near the upper edge of the tub. The tub may rest upon any suitable rotating bearing having a spring checking device, as shown.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a rotatable suds-tub, of a base, a platform thereon, a vertical post rising from the platform, an arm hinged on the post and extended horizontally over the suds-tub, the upper rubbing-disk, a Vertical sleeve carried thereby, a rod passed through an opening in said arm, and into said sleeve, a ring upon said sleeve, a pin projecting from each side of said ring, a guide and a lockingbar having one end passed loosely through said guide, and its lower end formed into an inverted loop with eyes loosely receiving said pins, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO A. OASLER.
