SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,308, dated March 11, 1 902.

To all whmn it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY J. HARRISON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Juneau, in the Territory of Alaska, have invented a new and Improved Lam p-Hanger, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to a hanger for electric lamps; and the object is to provide means similar to the usual shade-roller for carrying the flexible conducting-cord or wires, so that the lamp may be raised or lowered to any desired position without interfering in any Way with the propertransmission of the electric current.

This specification is a specific description of one form of the invention, while the claim is a definition of the actual scope thereof.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.

Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a detail view, with parts in section, on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

eindicates any suitable mechanism similar, for example, to that usnally employed in a spring shade-roller for holding the drum Z) in the desired position and yet for permitting the drum to be adjusted from this position to another when desired. These devices e will be fully understood by reference to Fig. 2.

f indicates the lamp, and g the flexible conductors leading the current thereto. These conductors are connected by fixtures g with wires h, leading into the drum 1), and in turn connected with conducting-pins 7L, fastened in the drum Z) coincident with the axis thereof and extending through the hollow journals 1). The pins h are insulated from the journals 1) by means of non-conducting bushings, as shown in Fig. 1. The pins h project beyond the journals of the drum Z2 and beyond the frame CL and have recessed ends receiving short projections t" on spring-arms 1'. These arms are mounted on the frame a, but insulated therefrom,and are in connection,respectively, with the poles of the electric circuit feeding the lamp f.

Now it will be clear that no matter in what position the drum 1) be placed there will always be a proper electrical connection between the parts 72. and 2 and the lamp will therefore be properly supplied with the electric current.

Various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of my invention may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention. Hence I consider myself entitled to all such variations as may lie within the scope of my claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A lamp-hanger, comprising a frame having depending parts, a shaft extending between said parts and mounted to turn therein, a

spring driving the shaft, a drum, hollow trunnions on the drum, said trunnions being mounted in the depending parts of the frame, gearing connecting the drum with the shaft, pins projected through the hollow trunnions of the drum and insulated therefrom, said pins extending into the drum and beyond said depending parts of the frame, contactarms fastened to the upper part of the frame and projecting downward and engaged respectively with said pins of the drum, electrical conductors adapted to be wound on the drum, said conductors being respectively in connection with the pins, and means for controlling the movement of the drum.
