TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, MA-SON PRENTISS, of Cambridge, in the county of Washington, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Plough; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to a new and improved plough, of that class which is provided with a double mouldboard, and is more especially designed for cultivating crops.
The invention consists in the application of an adjustable shoe at the rear of the share or mould-board, the shoe being arranged in such a manner that it may, with the greatest facility, be adjusted higheror lower to graduate the depth of the furrow as may be required. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a side view of my invention partly in section.
Figure 2,, a rear view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. I
A represents the beam of the plough constructed of iron, and curved at its rear end to form a. standard, to which the share or mould-board B is attached, the latter having two wings a a. The beam A has two handles 7) 6 attached to it, and the curved standard of the beam is provided with a curved pendent projection, C, to which the shank or tang c of a shoe, D, is attached by a bolt, d, the latter passing through the tang c and through an oblong slot, 0, in the projection C. 'The shoe D is of curved form, as shown in fig. 1, and the front end of' the shoe D is fitted in therear of the standard portion of the beam in such a manner as to form ajoint, the front of D being made in circular form and fitted in a corresponding hole in the beam, as shown atf in fig. 1. By means of the bolt d passing through the oblong slot 2, in the projection C, the shoe D may be adjusted higher or lower, as desired, and the plough made to penetrate the earth at a greater or less depth, as required. The shoe may be applied at a very small cost, and will operate in the most efficient manner for the purpose specified.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The adjustable shoe I) applied to the curved rear part of the plough-beam A, substantially in the manner as and for the purpose set forth.
MASON PRENTISS.
