$EEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 694,746, dated March 4, 1902.
Application filed September 11, 1901. Serial No. 75,018. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN M. HANNA, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bunsen Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings;
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gas-burners, and relates more particularly to that class known as Bunsen burners.
The present inventionhas for its object the provision of novel means whereby a burner may be employed upon high pressure gaslines; furthermore, to regulate the flame to any desired degree.
The presentinvention fnrthercontem plates to construct a device of the above-described character wherein the gas-passages will be direct from the gas-supply pipe to the point of combustion in the burner.
The present invention also aims to provide an air-mixer that will increase the volume of the flame and produce a perfectly clear and steady light.
Another object of this invention is to construct a gas-burner of the above-described class that will be extremely simple in con struction, strong, durable, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture; furthermore, one that will be highly efficie-nt in its opera tion.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described,'and specifically pointed out in the claim.

The reference-numeral 6 represents a plug carrying aflange 7, said flange seated in the seat 3. The said plug 6 has formed therein a central screw-threaded opening 8 to receive the needle-valve 9. This plug 6 has also formed therein a number of ports 10, communicating with the recess 11, formed in the under face of the plug, in which the base of the needle-valve is seated. The said plug 6 is exteriorly screw-threaded, as shown at 12, to receive a cap 14. This cap has formed therein a central opening 15 and a gas-chamber '16, which is preferably cone-shaped, but
may be of any desired form.
The reference-numeral 17 represents the burner proper carrying an annular flange 18. Below said flange 18 are arranged cut-away portions 19, forming air-passages to mix the gas and air. A slot 20 is also formed in the lower portion of the burner, which is adapted to receivea head or pin 21, the latter being rigidly secured to the outer face of the cap 14.
The reference-numeral 22 represents screwthreads arranged upon the exterior of the lower portion of the burner, said screwthreads engaging in the interior screwthreads 5 of the contracted portion 4 of the casing 1. r
- The operation of my improved gas-burner is as follows: W'c will assume that the parts are in position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 The needle-valve is then regulated to operate upon high or low pressure, as the case may be. The burner is then placed in proper'position, and by turningthe head or pin 21 in the slot 20 the same will partially rotate the. cap l4,secured upon the plug, thereby raising or lowering f the same, as the case may be, and obtaining a larger or smaller opening between the point of the needle-valve and the central opening 15 of the cap. In this manner the flame may be regulated to any desired degree, as the case Will be in perfect control at all times.
The many advantages obtained by the use of my improved gas-burner will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
It will be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction Without departing from the general spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In agas-burner, an interiorly-threaded casing having athreaded upper portion of greater diameter forming'a shoulder, an exteriorlythreaded plug in said larger portion of the casing, an eXteriorly-threaded flange carried by the plug engaging the said larger portion of the casing and seated on said shoulder,
said plug having ports and a central screwthreaded opening formed therein, an interiorly-threaded cap mounted on said plug, the upper portion of said cap having a central aperture formed therein communicating with a gas-chamber having tapering walls formed in said cap, the periphery of said cap adapted to be engaged by the interior of the lower portion of the burner-tube, the exterior of said lower portion being threaded and engaging the interiorly-threaded larger portion of the casing, apin carried by the said cap and operating in a slot provided therefor in the lower portion of the burnertube, substantially as described.
