IMPROVEMENT IN BELLOWS.
TO ALL WHOM- IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BUSIINELL, of the town of Sehodack, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bellows for propelling or compressing air or gases useful for illuminating apparatus and other purposes; and I do hereby declare that the fol is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in arran imparting a peculiar motion to the lower disk nately distend and compress the several bello following detailed description.

The same letters of reference apply to the saine parts in the several figures.
A is the upper board of a square reservoir bellows, B the lower board, and C the flexible rim thereof. D is the upper board of the several small or feeding bellows E. In this board D are valves G, opening upwards each from the several small bellows E into the chamber F. lhe several bellows E have one bottom board, Il, in common, in which are valves I, opening upwards, but are each provided with separate and distinct flexible sides or diaphragms K, so that each small bellows is a separate and distinct chamber or compartment. The lower board II is rigidly secured to a' shaft or rod, L, held at the upper end by a universal joint, M, and at the lower end secured in an eccentric position to a rotating wheel, N, from which it receives such a motion that the axis of the rod L describes a cone, the apex of which is in the centre of the universal joint.
The action of' the lower board of the smaller bellows is to successively expand and contract the several bellows E E, die., and these several bellows, receiving air by their lower valves when iuflating, expel it through their upper valves when contracting into the chamber F, from which chamber through the valve O into the upper bellows or reservoir. When this upper bellows is inflated, the valve O is closed by means ofthe lever l, operated by the cord Q, attached to and operated by thc board A, the valve O being an ordinary clach valve and free to open upward whenever the pressure below exceeds that above and the weight of the valve, until the lowing and the letters ging a series of single bellows between two disks` and, by by means of a rotating wheel and rod operated thereby, alterws in regular succession, and may be fully understood by the connecting one arm ol" the lever to the board A, eff'ectually closes the valve, and holds it so until the upper bellows has been partially' emptied of its contents and the board A has descended. lhe moment of closing ofthe valve O is under control by reason of the oord Q being adjustable in its length. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure as such by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the several smaller bellows with the rod L, operating substantially in the manner lhereinbefore described.
2. The' combination of the bellows E with the chamber F, valve O, and lever P, ashereinbefore set forth and described.
