SPECIFICATION formin art of Letters Patent No. 693,639, datedFebruaz-y 18,1902.
Application tiled amt 2a. 1901. Serial 1%, 53,364. on model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1,, CHARLES PHILIBER'I CLEMENT, asubject of the King of Belgium, residing at .47 Rue .Chery, Liege, Belgium,
have invented-certain new and useful Im provements in Concealed Hammer Breakdown Guns, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will euable others skilled intheart to which it appertains to make and nsethe same. 7
The object of my invention is to provide a concealed=hammer breakdown gun'of a new and improved form and of an exceedingly simple and cheap form of construction which may be eitherof the single or double barreled type.
To such ends my invention consists, in substance, of a stock, a barrel or barrels pivoted to the stock,- atrigger pivoted to the stock,
' aswinging bar pivoted to the stock .in such.
"ham'rnerjn its retracted position h'pon the. ban; all substantially as hereinafter more particu- 7 manner that the same will be vibrated upon its pivot upon. the opening and closing of the gun throughthe contact of its forward endw'iththe fore-end piece of the gun, a hammer pivoted to the swinging bar, a mainspring for actu'atingthe hammer carried by the swing- ;ing bar,and a spring-actuated sear pivoted to the swinging bar and adapted to lock the larly described and claimed.
In ,the accompanying drawings, forining part of this specification, inwhich like charactors of reference designatecorresponding partgi in'the several' views, Figure 1 is'aside 3'5 lockcarrier', forward portion of the stock, andthe rear end portion of the barrel of a con: ,eale'd -hammer breakdown ,gnn of my im proved form, the hammer-and lock partsf'being shown in the position assumed by them the in "sta'nt after firing. Fig. 2 is a view of the conview, partially in section, of the trigger. and
struction shown in Fig. -1, the guubein g shown lathe partially broken down oropen position; a, d Fig. 3 is alike yiew of such construction in e cltmedpositidn', the hammerbein g cocked andfghn being ready for firing. a
In the drawings, .K5designa-tes the barrel or barrels of my improved breakdown gun, and Lthe metallic forward portion of the stock,
'50 M being the fore-end piece secured to the under side of the barrelor barrels, such stock and barrels being secured together by ,means shown in Fig. l.
p 1;...Pivot'ed upon-api'vot-screw F at the ex? trenre rear end'ot the swinging bar B'isa sear D-,1provided with a rearwardly-extend' 1,) which locking mechanism is'nsnally actu ated by a top lever P. Pivoted to the portion L of the stock upon a pivot A-is a swinging bar B, usually of the form shown, provided with 'a tang Qat the forward end fitting in a slot in the fore-cud piece M insuch manner that the vibration of 'the barrel or barrels K upon the pivot 0 in the act of breaking down or opening the gun will vibrate the swinging lever B, so that the forward end will be pressed downward and the rear end upward into the position shown in Fig. 2. I
Pivoted to the swinging lever B rearward of the pivot A upon a pivotS is a hammer 0, ,provided with the firing-point c, the'point of which when in the tired position (shown in Fig.
llyprojectsthrough a. cavity in thebreech- "block of the gun, so as to contact withthe primer of the cartridge-shell to fire the same,
although sometimes the point 0 may be omitted and such hammer be provided with a flat hammer-face adapted to contact with the rear endiol a'flriug-pin of the well-known form located at the point of sudhcavity. Located between the. hammer C and the swinging bar B, between the lug carrying the pivot-screw s, upon which the hammer C is'pi'voted,' and a'cavity E in theextreine rear end oE-the the forward ends of; which hear one upon the -bar and .thelother uponthe ham meri-n such manner, as to'keep the-same normaily vforced away from the-,bar and} into the; position ingftripping end H, adapted toefit into the cavity 1 below the rounded ;top endprojectiou 201*. the trigger-plate Gg-sfueh sear D being-:provided at its forward end with a catchslinnld''r T, adapted to coact with the catch- 133g U, formed upon the hammer, thesear D ije'in'g normally forced into the locking posi-- tion by a springRv', secured thereto by means at a screw '1', the lower end of which spring R rests against the extreme rear end of the swinging bar, is a twoeprong mainspring' K,
