UNTTnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BYRON \V. KNIGHT, OF MOFALL, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO KNIGHT & COBB, OF MOFALL, MISSOURI.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 692,308, dated February 4, 1902.
Application filed September 80, 1901. Serial No. 77,133. (llo model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, BYRON W. KNIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Me- Fall, in the county of Gentry and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pinless Olothes-Lines; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvementsin pinless clothes-lines; and it has for its object the provision of a simple, inexpensive, and at the same time efficient and durable clothes-line of the character to be hereinafter fully described.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, forms a part of this application, and in which I have shown a plan View of several of the links of the line.
Referring to the drawing by letter, A designates the line, which is made up of connected links each of which is formed of a single piece of wire bent upon itself to form flexible shank portions B, which are partially twisted substantially their entire length about each other. Each link has a loop portion D,
formed by bending the ends of the shank portions in opposite directions and thence at substantially a right angle, with the portions of the wire converging and intersecting and forming a loop O, to which an adjacent link is adapted to be connected, as shown. The opposite end of each link from that having the loop described may be turned into an eye to receive an eye 0, and after the ends of the links are thus connected the ends of the Wire forming each link are soldered or otherwise fastened together.
In applying garments to my improved line the edges of the clothes are first inserted through the loops D and then may be pushed between the partially-twisted shank portions of the links and will be securely held to the line.
What I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A clothes-line made up of a series of connected links, each link formed of a piece of wire bent upon itself to form two flexible shank portions which are partially twisted substantially their entire length about each other and terminating in a loop, formed by the two portions of the link being bent in opposite directions, and then at substantially right angles, with portions converging and bent beyond their point of intersection into an eye in the plane of said loop, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BYRON W. KNIGHT.
