Be it known that I, ALBION W. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Millbridge, in the county of Washington and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pasting-ltlachines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in pasting-machines, and has particular reference to a machine for applying paste to wallpaper.

One object of my invention is the provision of a machine which will be reversible and be capable of placing on either end of a table that may be desired when pasting the paper for application to the wall.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a machine which will be of the simplest and cheapest possible construction and which will apply the paste smoothly and evenly to the paper and insure the highest efficiency.

Another object of my invention is the provision ofa pasting-machine which will be of small size and compact and which will be durable, thus possessing the qualifications to render the machine useful and practical.

To attain the desired objects, my invention consists of a pastingmachine embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts,substantially as disclosed herein.

Figure 1 represents a perspective View of my improved pasting-machine. Fig. 2 represents a vertical transverse sectional View of my machine with a roll of wall-paper in position to receive paste.

In the drawings, A designates the paste box or trough, which may be made of wood lined with metal or may be made entirely of metal and of the proper size to receive an ordinary roll of wall-paper crosswise. The box has the end walls formed with the shoulders B and with the upward extensions 0, and in the extensions are channels forming bearings E, and adjacent to the shoulders are slots forming bearings D. In the channels or bearings D are received the journals D of the guide and presser rolls D and in the channels or bearings E are received the journals E of the paste-supplying roller E From this construction it will be seen that the pastesupplying roller is arranged centrally in the box, with the presser or guide rolls on each side and not quite in contact with the pastesupplying roller, and when in use the roll of paper is placed above the pasting-roller and passes between one of the guide and presser rolls, as shown in Fig. 2, and from this construction it will be seen that the presser-roll forces the back of the wall-paper against the pasting-roller, from which it takes the paste and'passes out from the box upon the cutting-table, where it may be out into the desired lengths ascircumstances require.

To the ends of the box or trough is hinged the bail-shapedbrush-carrying frameF,which is provided with a handle G for shifting it to either side of the box,and to which is secured the brush H, the purpose of which is to insure the application of the paste to the surface of the paper in a smooth and even manner.

It will be seen that I provide a machine which can be placed upon the cutting-table and which will perfectly apply the paste to the paper and that the paper can be drawn out in the proper lengths and cut, and also that the machine may be reversed and used at either end of the table, as found desirable, and also that the machine is of the simplest, cheapest, most durable, and most practical construction. It will also be noted that the supply and guide rollers can be removed when desired for the purpose of cleaning.

I claim- 1. A pasting-machine, consisting of a box or trough, a centrally-arranged paste-supplyin g roller, a pair of guide-rollers one on each side of the supply roller, and a reversible brush.

2. A pasting-machine, consisting of the box or trough, a paste-supplying roller and guide and presser rollers removably mounted in said box or trough.
