ATENI nice,
HEINRICH SCHICKLER, OF WVILMERSDORF, NEAR BERLIN, GERMANY.
COLORING TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 691 ,184, dated January 14, 1902.
Application filed August 1.7, 1901. Serial No, 72,429, (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HEINRICH SoHIoKLER, master painter, a subject of the King of VVi'irtemberg, residing at No. 7 Ringbahnstrasse, in Deutsch Wilmersdorf, near Berlin, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Coloring- Tools, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an apparatus for use in the decoration of dwelling-rooms and the like, and has for its object to permit of decoration-lines of various colors and widths, as required in the painting of borders, as well as endless friezes and ornamentations upon such walls and ceilings to be effected or produced by a simple movement of the apparatus in a longitudinal direction.
In the accompanying drawings a construction for carrying my invention into effect is shown, in WlliCl1- Figure 1 is a side elevation; Fig. 2, a plan partly in longitudinal section.
Upon a rigid axis or, carried by the shanks b of a movable frame-carrier, a number of rotatable disks or rollers c are mounted, correspondingin number, width, and distance from each other to the decorative bordering or ornamentation to be produced. The spacing or location of the disks to each other can, as shown in the drawings, be adjusted by movable rings or collars of varying width within certain limits to any desired degree. The circumference of each of the disks 0 is provided with a plain or pattern-producing covering d, of felt or other suitable color-absorbing material, and beneath each disk a trough f is arranged, each of these troughs being carried by the middle shank g of the said framecarrier in such a manner that a portion of the circumference of each disk is caused to dip into the liquid or pasty coloring material contained in the trough belonging or attached beneath the same.
The improved apparatus is guided along the edge of the ceiling or wall in such manner that each of the above-mentionedv disks or rollers uniformly touch the surface to be deoorated, whereby, as is apparent, a number of borders, friezes, and ornamentations will be produced in form, breadth, and color corresponding to the type of the respective rollers and the color of the material in the said trough. The handle 7t insures a reliable guiding of the apparatus along the ceiling or the Wall.
To conveniently insure the true or straight movement of the apparatus, as Well as to prevent a tipping of the same when traveling along the respective wall or ceiling, the apparatus is provided with two horizontal and two vertical guide-rollers 7t and I, mounted upon an arm 2', this arm forming a continuation, so to speak, of the axis a and projecting beyond the shanks b of the frame-carrier. It will thus be apparent that these guide-rollers when brought to bear against and travel along a suitably-held rule or against a straight edge of the wall or ceiling will cause the desired accuracy in the movement of the apparatus to be perfectly attained What I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is-
In an improved apparatus for the production of variously-colored plain or ornamental borders or friezes upon ceilings and walls the combination with a number of disks or rollers 0 provided at their circumference with a plain or pattern-producing covering of felt or other suitable paint-absorbing material, the said disks being mounted upon a common axis a and optionally adjustable in their distance apart by intermediate rings or collars e, of coloring-troughs f, interchangeably arranged under each disk and carried by the middle shank g of a frame-carrier and lastly of guide-rollers 7t and Z, mounted upona projected arm of the said axis, all operating substantially and for the purpose as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
HEINRICH SGHIOKLER.
Witnesses:
