. @geiten tait-.ff etent @mit DAVID EYNON. OF RICHMOND, YIRGNA, ASSGNOR TO THE TREDEGAR COMPANY, OF SAME PLAGE.

TO ALL WHOM IAT MAY CONOERN;
i Beit known that I, DAVID EYNON, of Richmond, in thel connty'of Henrico, and State of Vi1ginia,-l1ave invented a new and useful Improvement in Rolls for Making Railroad Chairs, of which the following is a full,
clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which make part of this specification, and in whichi Figure l shows a view in elevation of my improved rolls, and
Figure 2 a. vertical transverse section through the same, at the line x :v of tig.
It is the object of my invention to roll a railroad chair from a rectangular pile without the necessity of bending down the lips of the chair, which are liable to crack when so bent; and to this end my inventioneonlsists in passing the lpile between rolls containing :t series of grooves of the proper form to give the desired shape to the chair, as hereinafter described. My invention further consists in placing a pair of iattening-rollers in rear of one of the grooves, as hereinafter described..
To carry out my invention I mount a pair of rolls, A B, in proper hearings, and drive them in any suitable well-known Way. A series of matched grooves is formed in these rolls, so as to leave openings of the forms shown at 2., 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, which are counterparts of the form given to the chair in the successivestages of its manufacture. In making the chairs a heated pile is passed through each groove successively, beginning with No. l and continuing to No. 7. By reference to the drawings it will be seen that after passing through groove No. 4 the bar has assumed a coneavo-convex shape, with the concavity beneath. To flat-ten out the bar properly I arrange a pair of rollers, C D, in rear ofthe fifth groove, and pass the har between them before it cntersithe sixth groove. This lattens it properly, and it then finished by passing it through Nos. 6 and 7. The hat is then sawed into proper lengths, andi-the chair is complete with the exception of the holes for the insertion of the spikes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent, is-
The rolls, grooved as described and shown in the drawings.
I also claim the flattening-rollers, arranged in rear of the fifth groove, :ts described, for the purpose set forth.
DAVID EYNON. Witnesses:
J. TANNER, E.B. Coons.
