[EYEGLASS -F'ITTING.'
f: SPECIFIQATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 688,550, dated December 10, 1901.
Application filed May .16, 1901.
To all whom zit-11mg concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB (J. SCHMIDT, a' citizen of the United States, residing at Leb-. anon, in the county of Lebanon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass Fittings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inventlon, such'as will enable others skilled inthe art to which it appertains to make and use the .same. v
This invention relates to improvements in eyeglass-fittin gs especially adapted for use on proved means ofs'ecuringthe spring and nose-- strain that may be placed on the different parts. l-leretofore'the nose-guard and spring objection to this construction is the loosening of the screw when submitted to a strain I have endeavored to overcome this obj ection, and 111 my present construction I dispense The invention is fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, 'in which- Figure 1- is a front view, of a portion of an eyeglass, showing my new construction. Fig.' 2-is a sectionalview taken on line xxof Fig.
The cap-piece a before being bent isa llat piece of metal approximately rectangular pro- The post b is T'-shaped and has an angular the pin a.
the use'of either screw or solder.-
Serial No. 60,269.. (N0 m1.)
' The spring (2 and nose-guard care of the usual shape and are formed eachwith a hole, into which the pin 0 enters when in position.
The spring (1 is first placed in position on The nose-guard "e is then placed thereon, and the cap-piece a is then placed in position, so that its body portion will rest against'the projectingpin. c after the former hasbeen bent along, the dotted lines 2', Fig. 3. The armsa are then clenched'around the under-side of thehead b and on each side'of the post 1), embracing the nose-guard and spring, thus causing the; shank of the post to stand within the bifurcation, which will prevent'the cap from slipping up or'down, thereby making a rigid fitting securely fastened without 5? The invention is simple and-elfective, and the product is neat in appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, an d desire to secure by Letters Patent, i s.
Aneyeglass-fitting consisting of a T-shaped post, an angular pin projecting from the head of said post, a spring and nosepiece, ea" provided with an angular aperture to receiv the pin,.and a cap, coustructed of a piec pf metal provided with bifurcated ends formifi arms, the whole bent aroundand beneath the head of the post so. that the arms'will embrace the-shank, substantially as and for. the purpose set forth. 1 p l In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
