HARRY HUEBNER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CLOTHES-LINE REEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,456, dated. November 12, 1901.
I Application filed May 2, 1900. Serial No. 15,188. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY HUEBNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clothes- Line Reels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful im* provement in clothes-line reels, and has for its object to simplify the construction of such reels, the object of which is to provide for the winding of the clothes-line thereon in order that it may be stored when not in use and permit its ready unwinding when desired for use.
With these ends in View this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying to the handle as shown in Fig, 1.
An eye a is formed in twisting the wires in the form of the shank O. A bushing b fits within this eye a, and two washers d dare placed one on each side of theeye a and the bushing I). These washers d d are large enough in diameter to entirely inclose the wire forming the eye (1. These washers d and the bushing b have a hole formed in their center, through which passes a nail or screw einto the handle 0.
The advantages of this construction are that the bushing 12 being a little thicker than the diameter of the wire forming the eye a always leaves the reel free to revolve, so that it cannot bind, and also the fact that just plain washers and an ordinary nail or screw is used makes the construction very cheap. This arrangement permits the reel to freely revolve upon the bushing, and the object is to facilitate the unwinding of the clothesline when it is to be used, which is aocomplished by simply grasping the handle in one hand and drawing the line from the reel, which thereupon revolves Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is- 1. In a clothes-line reel, two pieces of wire twisted together and having diverging ends, said wires being bent centrally to form a bearing, a bushing having a hole in its center, a handle, a fastener run through the bushing and having its end embedded in the handle;
said bushing fitting in the bearing formed by the wire.
2. In a clothes-line reel, two pieces of wire twisted together and bent centrally to form a bearing, a handle, a bushing on which the reel is rotatable, a disk on each side of the bushing and a pin for securing the bushing and disks on the handle.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature in the presence of two sub= scribing witnesses.
HARRY HUEBNER.
Witnesses WM. HUEBNER, G. PERCY Fox.
