Nimaia STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. TBBS, OF AGRA, KANSAS.
PIPE-WRENCH..
. SPECIFICATION forming part-@f Letters Patent No. caese, dated easter e9, 190i.
Application filed March 25, 1901. Serial No. 52,774. (No model.)
.erence being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in pipe-wrenches, and has for its object to produce a wrench which shall be extremely simple in its construction, cheap to manufacture, and durable in its use.
A further object of my invention isto pro- A duce a wrench. with serrated segments which may be easily replaced by new ones when worn out.
A still further object of my invention is to construct a wrench which can be quickly adj usted to span any sized pipe.
. Briefly described,- my invention consists of a pair of jaws which have handles made integral therewith ,said j aws having their roughened segments removably secured thereto. Furthermore, the said jaws are to b'e connected by a series of links which can be readily adjusted to suit different-sized pipes.
My invention further consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts to be clearly described in the following specification and fully set forth in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application and in which like characters of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view of my improved wrench. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view o one of the members. i
In the drawings the reference-numerals designate the handles of my improved wrench. Said handles may be of any size, shape, or form; but I prefer to use the h'andles as shown in the drawings. The semicircular jaws 2 are made integral with the said handles and'have a cut-away portion, as at 3', forming shoulders 3, against which the segments are adapted to abut.l
The reference-numerals 4 designate removable segments which are provided on their the semicircular jaws 2 and hold them seL curely thereto. One'of the said semicircular jaws is provided with integral hook 8 and the other of said jaws is provided with an apertured lug 9, made integral therewith. Links 10 are made in the form of an ordinary bicy-4 cle-chain link, with the usual apertured lugs 11, in which pins l2 are inserted to hold the parts together. Said lugs are adapted to be engaged by the hook 8. The links are made very ileXible, so that they will admit of being turned back upon one another,- thus allowing the hook 9 to engage any one of the lugs and shorten the span of the wrench.
It is obvious that with a wrench of my construction it is possible to quickly adjust the same for use on a large or small pipe or other' article.
Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim as new and useful, and ldesire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
1. In a device of the character described, a pair of handles, jaws made integral therewith, a hook made integral with one of said jaws, a perforated lug made integral with the other of said jaws, and adjustable means connected to said lug and to the said hook whereby the span of the wrench can be length'- ened or shortened by the disengagement of the said hook and the rengagement of the same to the said means, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described, a pair of handles, jaws made integral therewith, a hook made integral with one of said jaws, a perforated lug made integral with the other of said jaws, a series of links connected to the said lug, and removably connected to the said hook, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM S. TUBBS.
