UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JAMES H, BEATTIE, OF PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON.
COMBINED MlLKlNG-STOOL AND PAIL-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 685,419, dated October 29, 1901.
Application filed April 25,1901. Serial No. 57,4311 (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMEs H. BEATTIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Puyallup, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin a Combined Milking- Stool and Pail-Holder, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to dairy appliances; and it consists in a milking-pail holderin combination with an adjustable stool.
The object of my invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device of this character to facilitate the operation of milking.
In the drawings, where similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views, Figure l is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is a rear end view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the seat and parts integral therewith.
The letter aindicates the bed-frame, having feet I) b so disposed as to make an extended base, preferably arranged as shown-- that is, two legs I) on each of the longitudinal sides and another, I), at the rear end thereof. Adjacent to the rear end of and rigidly mounted to the said bed-frame isa standard 0 of rectangular horizontal cross-section, preferably formed by bending a piece of sheet metal to make two inclined legs,as shown, each
leg having a vertical slot Z, and on one edge of each slot, disposed diagonally to those upon the opposite leg, are series of notches or steps h, arranged in pairs horizontally to provide seats or saddles for the reception of crossarms fof a seat-post cl. The seat-post extends through an aperture in the top of the standard 0 to support a seat 6, which is adj usted vertically to various heights by means of the arms f and the series of notches h aforesaid.
The changes of heights are made by raising and turning the seat-post so as to move the said arms out of the notches into the slot. Thence it may be moved up or down, as desired, when by a partial turn the arms may again be seated to their new adjustment in any pair of the several notches. The notches are sufficiently deep to prevent the arms being unseated by any twisting motion alone, and to prevent any lateral play or sliding move ment of the arms within the notches I bend the arm extremities g to engage over the out side of the notches. Positioned near the front end of the bed-frame is a pail-holder composed of a ring 19, suspended by legs 5.
From the foregoing brief description and accompanying drawings it will readily be seen that my device furnishes means to hold the pail out of the filth and dirt and free from all danger of upsetting without the aid of the operators knees, that would restrain the move-'- ments of the entire body, and this freedom of movement, together with a comfortable seat provided at a suitable height, permits the milking being done with greater speed and less fatigue, advantages of no little importance in a dairy.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device of the character described, the
combination with a bed frame and a pailholder; of a standard having a series of steps or notches disposed horizontally in pairs at various heights, a vertically-adjustable seat, and the support for said seat consisting of a post extending vertically through an opening in the standard-top and having a pair of arms projecting from said post and adapted
