IMPROVED APPARATUS FOR DRYING STARGH.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN;
I Be it known that I, ANDREW EItKENBnEcHEn, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invcntcd a new and useful Stareh-Drying Apparatus; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exaet description thereof, reference being had to the aeeompanying drawings, making part of this spccifioation.
My invention rclates to an arrangemcnt of movable raeks, trueks, drying-chambers, ventilators, and their` aceessories, for the convenient, effective, and rapid desieeation of starch.
Figure 1 is a partially-scctionized front elevation of my drying-room.
Figurc 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Figure 3 is a horizontal section at line :v ro.
Figure is a perspective view of a rack.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal section of one of the trays.
A represents one 'of my drying-rooms or chambers, having a series of doors B in front, and having in its ceiling ventilating-ducts G, which eommunicate with a common trunk or escape fluc D. The drying-room is travel-sed from front to r'ear by steampipes E; and the floor between each two consccutivc stacks of these pipes is provided with a railway, F, which communicates with a. similar way, G, on a truck, H, which oceupies a sunk or dcprcsscd railway, I, extending in front of all the drying-rooms, and parallcl therewith. Beyond the sunk railway is another elcvated railway, J, in a line with the way F within the drying-room. K are dryingracks, consisting, each one, of a reetangular open frame L, having trays or platforme M, arranged one above another at suitable heights to receive the blocks of starch to be desiecated. Each platform is floorcd with bricks or unglazcd tilcs N. Each raek is mounted on four flanged wheels O, adapted to rest and run upon the ways F, G, and J. v
The operation is as follows: Each rackin sncession, being charged with blocks ofwet starch, is eonveyed along its appropriate railway to the truck H, and is upon it conveyed opposite to the particular compartment in the drying-honse for which it is destincd, into which it is then run, being supported and guided on the railway F. The doors B being then shut, the heat from the stcain pipes eliminates the moistnre from the starch, and causes it to seek the upper part of the room, whence it escapes, through the vcntilating-ducts C and fiue D, into the open air.
It 4will be seen that, in whatever part of the warcroom any particular rack may be located, it is easily shifted to any part of the drying-room, and ez'cc corsa.
I claim herein as new, and of my invention- 1. The provision in a starch-drying apparatus of a. series of racks, K, formcd to run on tracks F and J, within andvwithout the drying-room, and which communicate, by a similar track, upon a truck, H, which occupies a (lcprcssed track or railway, J, substantially as set forth. I
2. The arrangement of drying-roomV or .rooms A B, ventilators C D, steam-heating pipes E, elevated tracks If and J, deprcsscd track I, truck H, and racks K, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony of which nvention I hcreunto set my hand.
ANDREW ERKENBRECIIER. Witnesses:
GEo. H. KNIGuT, JAMES H. LAYMAN.
