IMPROVBD CHAIR.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY QONCERN:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS J. COATES., of Cincinnati, inthe county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Impijovem-ent in Chairs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,- and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to' make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. 1
The chair embraced in the pifesent invention has its seat and back so hung to the frame forming the legs that the back can be brought to a greater or lesser angle of inclination, and there secured or held, according as may be found necessary or desirablefthe chair being especially designed for'use as a. barbers or hairdressers chair. In the accompanying plate of timings my improvement in chairs is illustrated- -Figure I being an elevation of the same from the front side, and

A, in the drawings, represents the frame to th'e chair, which forms its supporting legs B. This frame consists of two side frames, C, joined together bycross-pieces or rounds, D, at suitable points. E, the back to the chair, and Fits seat, the back being secured to the seat and extended around thereon so as to form arms G, and the seat being hung by pivotsof the brackets H upon its under side, to and between the side frames C of the chair. I claim as new, Vand desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination and arrangement of the seat F, pivoted centrally to the sides C, and having upon its under side the quadrant-shaped sector I, provided with teethva upon its circular edge, and the spring-lever J, having prong b, and hinged to the forward rail D, substantially as described for the purpose specified.
