UNITED STATES PATENT FFrcn.
OTTO GUSTAV LUDWIG NETTLICH, OF BERLIN, AND GEORG EUGEN JULIUS KGRZINGER, OF RADEBEUL, GERMANY.
SHAVlNG-BRUSH.
SPECIFZCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 678,971, dated July 23, 1991. M
Application filed March 27, 1901. Serial No. 53,098. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OTTo GUSTAV LUD- WIG NETTLICH, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Berlin, and Gnone EUGEN JULIUS KoRZINGER, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Radcbeul, near Dresden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Brushes and the Like, (for which application has been made in Great Britain under No. 4,018, dated the 25th day of February, 1901; in Germany under N0. 1120,8522 III/9, dated the 16th day of February, 1901, and in Austria, dated the 1st day of March, 1901,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shaving-brushes, and has for its object to provide a shavingbrush to be used by barbers and those in the habit of shaving many people with the same brush, in which the brush proper can be renewed for each customer, so that the risk of spreading diseases by the employment of the same brush may be minimized.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a View of a shaving-brush constructed in accordance with this invention and a suitable bag or envelop for it. Fig. 2 is a side view of the brush in section. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the brush distended, as in use.
Like letters indicate like parts throughout the drawings.
' In place of a brush formed of bristles a sponge A is employed. This sponge may contain a piece of soap or may be impregnated with liquefied, powdered, or other soap, so that on its being wetted it will distend, Fig. 3, and be ready for use.
The sponge is carried in a holder or handle preferably consisting ofametal or other plate B, bent to form a clip, as shown in the drawings, so as to grip the sponge A, and the sides being'held by suitable clips 13, formed upon the plate B. The gripping edges of the plate B are provided with teeth 13 to assist in holding the sponge A.
The brush B may be kept in a sealed envelop C until ready for use, and after use the sponge A is thrown away and replaced by a new sponge.
Instead of the above form of handle or holder a piece of wood with the sponge inserted in a suitable slot therein may be employed.
The soap to be employed may be rendered antiseptic by any suitable means, if desired.
It will be noticed that as a small sponge is employed in place of a brush composed of bristles the cost of renewing the brushes will be small.
What We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a shaving-brush, the combination with the plate bent to form a clip, and provided with the lateral ears for holding the sides of the clip together, and the sponge carried by the clip; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
