H. SNYDER. POUSHING WHEEL.
(Ayplicatiun filed Feb. 14, 1901.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY SNYDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
POLISHING-WHEEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 678,054, dated July 9, 1901. Application filed February 14; 1901. Serial No. 47,2211 (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residin g at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Polishing-Wheels, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This'invention relates to polishing-wheels for use by jewelers and others; and the obj ect thereof is to provide a wheel of this class of improved construction whereby said wheel is rendered stronger and more durable and whereby the cost of the manufacture thereof is reduced .to a minimum.
of the wheel; Fig. 5, an edge view of an in ner disk which I employ in the body portion of the wheel; Fig. 6, a transverse section through the wheel completed as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 7 is a plan view of the disk shown in Fig. 5.
In the practice of my invention I provide a wheel of the class specified, comprising a central body portion 7 composed of two side disks .7, which are similar in form and construction and may be composed of any desired material, leather, rubber, or similar material being preferred, and between these disks is placed a central disk 8, of metal, which is corrugated or wave-shaped radially.
In practice the brush material 9 is arranged in separate parts or branches between the separate side disks 7 a of the body of the wheel and on the opposite sides of the central disk 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 6, and the ends thereof project beyond the sides of the body portion of the wheel, and the separate sides of the body portion are bound together by rivets, screws, or other devices 10,as clearly shown in the drawings. I
In securing the separate parts of the wheel together I place between the central disk and the side disks a layer or layers of shellac or other binding material, as shown at 11, and the separate sides of the body portion of the wheel are pressed firmly together and then secured by the rivets 10 or any other preferred means.
The central disk 8, which is corrugated radially, facilitates the binding of the brush material 9- and operates to secure or .hold the same in position, and in practice the brush is preferablymade ona spindle, which is passed through a central opening 12, and after the brush has been completed it is removed from the spindle, as will be readily understood.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i s-- 1. A polishing-brush comprising a central body portion composed of separate side disks, and a central disk corrugated radiallyand on the opposite sides of which the brush mate' rial is placed, and means for connecting said disks, substantially as shown and described.
2. A polishing brush comprising a central body portioncomposed of separate side disks, and a central disk corrugated radially and on the opposite sides of which the brush material is placed, said brush material being extended entirely through the body portion of the wheel and projected at the opposite sides thereof, said disks being connected substantially as shown and described.
i In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 13th day of February, 1901.
HENRY SNYDER.
