To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, VALTER L. BUSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iredell, in the county of Bosque and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow Attachments; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention aims to provide a shovel or point attachment for plow-stocks for operation in turf, stubble, or grubby or rocky soil and which is adjustable, so as to be set to run deep or shallow, the attachment being particularly adapted for turning stalks, weeds, grass, and stubble.

Fora full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached.

While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are necessarily susceptible of modification, still the preferred ern bodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis aside view showing the attachnient in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. iis a side view, the dotted lines showing an adjusted position of the opener.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The attachment is designed to be fitted to the stock of any plow or cultivator and comprises an opener 1, a plate 2, adjustable upon the shoe or runner of the opener, and bars 3 and e, hinged to each other and to the plate 2. The opener consists of a runner or shoe 5 and a point 6, the latter bein(T comparatively wide and sharpened, so as to readily penetrate the soil, and having its rear portion curved upwardly to form the sweep '7, the side port-ions of which incline rearwardly to shed the earth, stubble, grass, roots, and the like lifted as the device is drawn over the iield. The point and sweep are preferably integral with the runner or shoe 5 and are formed by folding or bending an end portion thereof upon itself. The runner or shoe is rather wide and long, so as to obtain a iirm bearing upon the earth and give proper direction to the point when the device is in active operation.

The plate 2 is longitudinally adjustable upon the runner or shoe 5 and is held thereto in the desired position by means of clampbolts 8 or fastenings ct kindred nature, the same passing through longitudinal slots 9, formed in opposite side portions of the plate 2 and at diagonally opposite points. A bar or plate l0 projects vertically from the plate 2 and is provided with a longitudinal series of openings 1l for adjustable connection of the bar 4 therewith. The front end of the plate 2 is provided with knuckles 12, in which is iitted a pin 13, which passes through a knuckle 14 at the lower end of the bar 3, whereby the latter is pivotally connected with the plate. Obviously the bar 3 may be pivotally con nected to the plate 2 in any desired manner, so long as provision is had for adjustment of the plate 2 to change the pitch or inclination of the runner or shoe 5 and point 6.

The front bar 3 is longitudinally slotted, as shown at 15, for the reception of the bolt, by means of which the attachment is secured to the stock 16 of the plow or cultivator 17. The lower end of the bar 3 is hinged to the plate 2, and its upper end is hinged or pivoted to the bar 4E, the lower end of the latter being cleft or forked, so as to receive the vertical bar or plate 10, to which it is adjnstably connected to admit of change in the inclination or pitch of the point 6 and runner 5. A pin or bolt 18 is adapted to pass through openings in the fork members of the bar 4 and through any one of the series of openings 11, so as to connect the bar 4c at its lower end with the plate in the desired position.

Vhen it is required touse the attachment, the shovel or sweep is detached from the stock of the plow or cultivator and is replaced by the attachment, which is secured to the stock with the lower end of the latter in the rear of the point 6 and sweep 7, the device being secured to the stock by a bolt passing through the slot 15 of the bar 3. It is desired to have the point and sweep rest against the lower end of the stock; hence the necessity for the adjustable connection between the IOO runner or shoe 5 and the plate 2. The pitch r inclination of the point G and runner or shoe can be varied to cause the opener to run deep or shallow by adj ustably connecting the bar 4: with the plate 10. After the parts have been adjusted they are 'made fast by tightening the bolts or fastenings 8.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isl. Aplowattachmentcomprising an opener consisting of a point and a shoe, a bar forcooperation with the said point to clamp the lower end of the plow-stock, means for pivotally connecting the bar at its lower end with the forward portion of the shoe, a second bar having pivotal connection with the upper end of the first-mentioned bar, and means for adj ustably connecting the said second bar at its lower end with. the rear portion of the shoe, substantially as set forth.

Aplowattachin'entcomprising an opener, a plate having adjustable connection with the shoe of the opener, oppositely-inclined bars pivoted to each other and to the front portion of the said plate, and means for adjustabl'y connecting the lower end of the rear bar with the rear portion of the said plate, substantially as set forth.

3. In a plow attachment, and in combination with the opener, a plate adjustable upon the shoe of the opener, a vertical plate provided upon the rear portion of the adjustable plate and having a longitudinal series of openings, a bar having pivotal connection at its lower end with the front portion of the adjustable plate, and a second bar having pivotal connection with the first-mentioned bar and having adjustable connection with the vertical plate,'substantially as set forth.

4. A plow attachment comprising a runner having a point and sweep at its front end, a horizontal plate adjustable upon the runner and provided with a vertical plate upon its rear portion, a bar pivoted at its lower end to the front portion of the horizontal plate, and a second bar pivoted to the first-mentioned oar and having adj ustable connection at its lower end with the aforesaid vertical plate, substantially as set forth.
