Be it known that 1, MAX VOGELGESANG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn,

in the county of Kings and State of New York,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Books, Hand-Bags, or the Like, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of theinvention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in pocketbooks,hand-bags, satchels, and the like,where= by a convenient independent change-pocket is provided entirely separate from the other compartments of the article to enable the user to readily store change separate from bills, cards, handkerchiefs, and the like and to allow of conveniently removing such change without exposing and displaying the bills or other contents of the article.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings,

forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement arranged as a pocket-book. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a hand-bag provided with the improvement.

5 The improvement illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 consists, essentially, of a frame A, a main pocket A, and a separate change or coin pocket A arranged at the top of the frame A, as is plainly indicated in said Figs. 1 and e 2. The frame A and the pockets A .A have their main parts formed of two pieces of leather or other suitable material, the front part A of the main pocket A terminating a suitable distance below the top A of the han 5 die, on which the auxiliary change or coin pocket is attached, and the back A of the main pocket A terminates in a flap A, adapted to extend over the front piece A and overlap the same and be secured thereto by a suitable fastening device B. The front piece A the front of the frame A, and the front piece A of the change or coinpocket A are formed of one single piece, while the back A of the frame A and the back piece A of the pocket A are formed of the second or back piece, the pieces being secured together along the rectangular frame portions by suitable stitches or the like.

The gussets for the main pocket A are fastened to the front and rear pieces A and A in any suitable manner, and said gussets D for the auxiliary pocket A are similarly attached to the front and back pieces A and A and a suitable frame E is provided for this auxiliary pocket to permit of conveniently opening or closing the pocket, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2.

Now by the construction described and shown it will readily be seen that the main pocket A terminates a short distance below the top A of the frame A, so as to form an opening for the users hand, while the auxiliary change or coin pocket A extends upwardly from said top A and can be conveniently and readily opened or closed to place the change or coin in said pocket or remove the same from the pocket whenever desired.

A ticket, card, or other pocket F maybe attached to the back piece A of the main pocket A for storing tickets, cards, handker- 8o chiefs, or the like.

By having the main pocket A entirely separate from the auxiliary pocket A it is evident that the user can have ready access to any one of the pockets without disturbing or exposing the contents of the other pockets, and at the same time a suitable handle is provided for conveniently carrying the article about.

As shown in Fig. 3, a hand-bag of any approved construction has its frame G provided with a handle G on the top of which is secured in any suitable manner a pocket H for storing coin or other articles, said pocket H extending to the top A previously referred 5 to and shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

I do not limit myself to the particular construction of the pocket-book shown in Fig. 1, although by making the essential parts thereof of two single pieces considerable material is saved and a very durable pocket-book is provided. I also do not limit myself to the particular application of the device as shown, as it is evident the arrangement may be applied to other articles besides those enumerated.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As a new article of manufacture, a pocket-book consisting of two pocket-books connected together, the connection between the books extending from the top of one to the bottom of the other and provided with an opening forming a handhold, as set forth.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a pocket-book consisting of two pocket-books connected together, the connection being provided with an opening, the rear wall of one pocket-box being extended and projecting through said opening to form a flap, as set forth. 7

3. As a new article of manufacture, a pocket-book consisting of a frame having the upper portion formed into a handle, a main pocket on the lower portion of the frame, and a change or coin pocket on the top of the handle, as set forth.

4. As a new article of manufacture, a

pocket-book consisting of a frame having the upper portion formed into a handle, a main pocket on the lower portion of the frame, and a change or coin pocket on the top of the handle, the front of said frame, the main pocket and the change or coin pocket being of a single piece of material, and the back of said frame, the main pocket and the change or coin pocket being likewise of a single piece of material secured to said first-named piece of material, as set forth.

5. As a new article of manufacture, a pocket-book consisting of a frame having the upper portion formed into a handle, a main pocket on the lower portion of the frame, and a change or coin pocket on the top of the handle, the front of said frame, the main pocket and the change or coin pocket being of a single piece of material, and the back of said frame, the main pocket and the change or coin pocket being likewise of a single piece of material secured to said first-named piece of material, and the covering-flap for the main pocket being an integral part of the back of the main pocket, as set forth.

6. As a new article of manufacture, a

' pocketbook consisting of a frame having the upper portion formed into a handle, a main pocket on the lower portion of the frame, and

r a change or coin pocket on the top of the handle, the front of said frame, the main pocket and the change or coin pocket being of a single piece of material, and the back of said frame, the main pocket and the change or. coin pocket being likewise of a single piece of material secured to said first-named piece of material, the front of the main pocket ter minating a distance below the top of the frame, to form a hand-opening in the frame, as set forth.

'7. As a new article of manufacture, a
