UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
JAMES LESLIE BURTON, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HERBERT BUTTON, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
MEDICINE-DOSE INDICATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 675,364, dated May 28, 1901.
Application filed April 2, 1901. Serial No, 54,029. (No model.)
Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine-Dose Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to medicine-dose indicators, and has for one object the provision of a simple device of this kind which may readily be applied to a receptac1efor instance, a jelly-glass--in which fruits or jellies are put up for trade or domestic use.
A further object. of the invention is the provision of a combined clip, spoon-holder, and index finger of simple construction and which may readily be applied to jelly-glasses or other receptacles.
A further object of the invention is the provision, in connection with said clip, spoonholder, and index-finger, of a cover for the receptacle having on its upper surface a dial with graduations indicating hours and the fractions thereof, to any of which the indexfinger may be pointed either by rotating the cover or by moving the clip around the glass.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a jelly glass or receptacle having a groove or other seat in which the clip carrying the spoon-holder and index-finger is removably fitted.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a glass having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal vertical section of the glass, taken on dotted line w 00 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the combined clip, spoon-holder, and index-finger.
Similar numerals. designate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a jelly-glass or other receptacle, preferably having a circumferential groove or seat 10 adjacent toits upper edge for the reception of a clip (designated by the numeral 12) and formed of suitable (preferably metallic) resilient material. Other forms of seat may, however, be used Without departure from the invention. This clip is composed of an annulus or ring divided at 12 and prefer ably formed with outwardly-curved free ends 14. in each portion adjacent to the dividingline to afford convenient finger-grasps for expanding the ring either to apply or withdraw the-same from the glass.
At about the median line of the ring it is provided with a spoon-holder 15, having laterally-projecting ears 15 with convenient finger-grasps 15 between which cars a spoon 16 maybe hung, as illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, and projecting from this spoonholder is an index-finger or pointer 17, which subserves a purpose hereinafter stated.
Fitted in the top of the glass 10 is a cover 18, preferably having beveled edges 18 to afford a tight joint, andthe upper surface of this cover is formed as a dial, having hours and fractions of hours indicated thereon by graduations and also having a knob or other device 19, by which the cover may either be rotated in its seat to bring any desired graduation opposite the index-finger 17 or said device may be used to Withdraw the cover from position.
Preferably one side of the glass is graduated at 20 to indicate the quantity of the contents thereof.
The resilient clip, spoon-holder, and indexfinger may either be formed integral,as shown, or the spoon-holder and index-finger may be made separately and riveted or otherwise socured to said clip, if desired.
By my invention a convenient and useful article is provided, one which can be employed in the usual way as a receptacle' for fruits, jellies, 850., and then after its contents have been removed may be utilized as a medicineglass.
In the use of the invention the clip may be rotated in its seat to bring the index-finger opposite the desired graduation of the cover,
,or said cover may be turned to accomplish from the invention, and these devices may be made of any desired material (preferably metal) suitable for the purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination, with a receptacle, of a resilient band applied to said receptacle, said band carrying a spoon-holder and an indexfinger, and being divided to form free ends, said free ends having finger-grasps.
2. The combination, with a receptacle, of a resilient band provided with outwardlyturned free ends, said band carrying a spoonholder and-an index-finger projecting from said spoon-holder.
3. The combination, with a receptacle having a seat adjacent to its upper edge, of a resilient clip located in said seat and carrying a spoon-holder and an index-finger; and a cover for the receptacle having a dial on its upper surface with which the index-finger cooperates.
4. The combination, with a receptacle having a circumferential groove adjacent to its upper edge, of a resilient clip seated in said groove, said clip having finger-grasps at its free ends and carrying a spoon-holder provided with an index-finger; and a cover fitted to the glass with a tight joint and having a device by means of which it may be rotated in, or lifted from, its seat.
5. Acombined clip,spoon-holder andindexfinger consisting of a resilient annulus having free ends provided with finger-grasps; a spoon-holder carried by the annulus; and an index-finger carried by said spoon-holder.
6. A resilient clip adapted to be applied to a receptacle, and consisting of an annular me= tallic band having free ends provided with finger-grasps, said clip also having a spoonholder carrying an index-finger.
7. A resilient clip constructed to be applied to the exterior of a receptacle, said clip consisting of an annular band having free ends bent to form finger-grasps, and said clip having a spoon-holder and an index finger intei gral with and projecting from said spoonholder.
