T DEVICE FOR DECORATING CHRISTMAS TREES.
(Application filed Aug. 11, 1900.) (No Model.)
@i @MM Suvewboz JOHN FRED BUSCHMANN, OF HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI.
DEVICE FOR DECORATING CHRISTMAS TREES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 674,956, dated May 28, 1901. Application filed August 1l, 1900. Serial No. 26.543. (No model.)
To al?, whom it petty concern:
Beit known that-LJoHN FRED BUscHMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hattiesburg, in the county of Perry and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Decoratinf,r Christmas Trees, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to devices for decorating Christmas trees by connecting therewith or suspending therefrom toys, candles, fruits, and various otherarticles; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive and which may be used for the purpose specied and for other and similar purposes; and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in the device hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure l is a view showing the construction and operation of my improved device; Fig. 2, a bottom plan view of a detail thereof; Fig. 3, a` cross-section of a candle-holder which I employ, and Figs. 4 and 5 are plan views of blanks from which the candle-holder is made.
In the drawings forming part of this speciication I have shown at A a support which in the drawings represents a limb of a Christmas tree, and in the practice of my invention, as shown at the right of Fig. l, I provide a hanger B, preferably composed of Wire and provided at its lower end with a hook b, with which is detachably connected a supplemental hanger C, having at its upper end a, hook C2 and provided at its lower end with a metal disk D, loosely connected therewith and concavo-convex in form and provided around its perimeter with a plurality of spring-fingers d, which are lanceshaped in form and each of which is preferably provided near its end with an inwardly-directed prong cl2.
The disk D, with its spring-fingers d, is intended to grasp and hold an orange E orauy similar fruit, and it will be apparent that any other ornamental or gift device may be suspended in the same manner.
The upper portion of the hanger B is provided with a hook b3, from which projects an upwardlydirected extension b4, which, as shown in the drawings, supports a toy ship F, or the upwardly-directed extension b4 of the hanger B may be used to support a candle or any other device or toy.
It will be observed that the supplemental hanger C is detachably connected with the hanger B, and by means of the hook b3 the hanger B may be suspended from a limb or any other article, and the fruit or other device connected with the supplemental hanger serves to hold the toy ship` candle, or other article in an upright position.
I have also shown at the left of Fig. I another form of my invention in which I employ a hanger g, preferably composed of wire and provided near its upper end with a hook g2, by which it may be suspended from the limb A or a branch thereof, and the hanger gis extended above the hook g2 and connected with a candle-holder g3. The lower end of the hanger g is provided with a hook or open ring g4, and detachably connected therewith is one of the disks D, which is .also provided with fingers d and prongs d2, the same as hereinbefore described, and by means of which an orange or other fruit E may be snspendedfrom thehangerg. 'Ihecandle-holder g3 is composed of two blanks h and k, (shown in Figs. 4 and 5, respectively,) and the disk h constitutes the bottom of the candle-holder and is provided around its perimeter with V- shaped notches or recesses h2 and at the center thereof with a rectangular depressed portion h3, the opposite sides of which are provided with pin-holes h4, and the blank 7c is oblong in form and provided with a central rectangular portion the ends of which are enlarged, as shown at k2, by means of side pieces having beveled corners formed on said ends.
In forming the candle-holder the enlarged ends h2 of the blank 7.a are bent upwardly, as shown in Fig. 3, and the central portion thereof is set into the depressed portion h3 of the blank hk, and pins 7a3 are passed through the IOO pin-holes h4, so as to hold said parts together, and the perimeter of the blank h is bent upwardly, as shown at h5 in Figs. 1 and 3. The blank 7c is also provided centrally thereof with a prong 7.56, which is out therefrom or formed integrally therewith and bent up- Wardly to form a prong which enters the lower end of the candle when the latter is placed in the holder. This device makes an effective candle-holder which may be used for the purpose of decorating a Christmas tree or for other and similar purposes, and said device is simple in construction and operation and perfectly adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended, and it will be apparent that changes in and modiicationsof the construction described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters PatentlA device of the class described, comprising a main hanger b adapted to be suspended from a limb or other support, and provided with an upwardly-directed extension adapted to support a candle or other article, the lower end of said hanger being provided with a de tachable supplemental hanger c, and a disk Cl loosely connected therewith, and provided with spring-fingers having inwardly-directed prongs, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the. foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses.
JOHN FRED BUSCIIMANN.
