DANIEL POMAREDA TANGO, OF KINGSTON, JAMAICA.
DENTISTRY.
SiPEGFIATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 673,802. dated May '7, 1901.
lnnlicatior filed November 2, 1900. Serial Nov 35,232. (No model.) u
.To /tZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL POMAREDA TANGO, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kingston, Jamaica, haveinvented new and useful Improvements iu Dentistry, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a system of dentistry in which the false teeth are fastened in place by purely mechanical means as contradistinguished from cementing or soldering the teeth, to which end I employ a bridgepiece having openings therein through which are projected the headed pins attached to the teeth, and these headed pins are held in place by locking-plates, which are engaged with the pins and fastened to the bridge, thus to prevent the displacement of the teeth.
This specification is a specific description of one form of my invention, While the claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a rear view of one of the teeth. Fig. 2 is a rear View showing the tooth applied to the bridge. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary rear View of the bridge. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the locking-plate, and Fig. 6 is a reduced View showing a number of teeth secured to the bridge according to my invention.
d represents a tooth, which may he of the usual form and which is provided with preferably two headed pins d', fastened to the rear side thereof and adapted to project through openings b in the bridge-plate h. This plate is suitably fastened in the mouth at the back of the teeth,as shown in Fig. 6.
The teeth are held in place by a lockingplate c, which has its lower edge formed with notches c', adapted to engage the Shanks of the pins d', as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, thus preventing the withdrawal of the pins from the openings b'. The end edges of the locking-plate are provided with dovetail tabs c2, and these are formed of pliable material, so that they may be projected through the hexagonal openings b2 ofthe bridge-piece and bent forwardly, so as to hold the locking-plates in position. The openings b2 heilig hexagonal, as indicated, and the tabs c being of dovetail form, it is clear that when the tabs are bent through the openings b2 and extended laterally of the plane in which the locking-plate lies the dovetail tabs will interlock with the hexagonal openings, and thus the lockingplate will be firmly secured in place. By this arrangement the teeth may be placed in position independently of each other and secured firmly in place without the necessity of cementing or soldering them in any manner. Broken teeth may be readily replaced simply by positioning the locking-plates and turning inward the tabs c2 thereof. Respecting the hexagonal-shaped openings b2, it is pointed out that each of these openings is arranged to receive two of the tabs c2-that is to say, the two contiguous tabs of adjacent lockingplates, as indicated at the left-hand side of Fig. 6.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of a bridge-plate having an opening therein, a tooth having a headed pin projected through the opening, a locking-plate lying against the back of the 'bridge and engaged with the headed pin to hold it in place and fastening devices for holding the locking-plate on the bridge.
2. The combination of a bridge, a tooth having a headed pin projected through an opening in the bridge, and a locking-plate engaged with the headed pin to hold it in position, the locking-plate having a pliable tab adapted to be bent into engagement with the bridge to hold the locking-plate in position.
3. The combination of a bridge, a tooth having a headed pin projected through an opening in the bridge, and a locking-plate adapted to engage the bridge to hold it in place, the locking-plate having a pliable dovetail tab thereon, and the bridge having an opening with inclined edges adapted to receive the pliable tab of the locking-plate.
4. The combination of a bridge adapted to reoeiveapluraiityof teeth, andlocking-plates name to this specification in the presence of .larrlnged lto hod said teeth (iin position, the two subscribing witnesses.
0C ing-p ates eing arrange contiguous to each other and having pliable, dovetan tabs, l DANIEL POMAREDA TANGO' 5 the bridge having a hexagonal opening ar- Witnesses:
ranged to receive two adjacent tabs. i COMAS LUNDE,
In testimony whereof I have signed my l H. FRENCH SHARP.
