SPECIFICATION folrxxlingl part of Letter Patent N0. 673,321, dated. April 30, 190.1.
Application filed October 6, 1900. Serial No. 32,301. (N0 model-3 To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsAAc N. LINCOLN, a citizen of the United States of America, residiugat1l7 Common street,in the cityand county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Im `provements in Syringe-Nozzles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the nozzle of a vaginal syringe; and the object of my invention is to provide a syringenozzle with an inclosing frame adapted to hold the walls of the vagina in an expanded condition during injection.
My invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents an elevation of the nozzle and frame with the frame contracted. Fig. 2 is a front end View ofthe same. Fig. 3 is acentral longitudinal section of the nozzle with the frame expanded. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of' one of the ribs of' the frame. Fig. 5 is atop plan view of the same. Fig. 6 is a rear end view of the rib. Fig. 7 is a View of the adjusting-nut as seen in diametrical section. Fig. S is a partial elevation of the front Fig. 9 is a front end View of the same. Fig. lO is a perspective view of the plug for the front end portion of the nozzle. Fig. l1 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken in line c a; of Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference correspond to similar parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the nozzle, which is made of brass tubing and cut in any desired length and having an exterior screw-threaded surface b near the extremity of its rear portion c.
B is a cylindrical-shaped nut adapted to be mounted upon the nozzle and is provided with a centrally-screw-threaded opening d to engage with the screw-thread of the nozzle, and this nut is further provided With a circular groove e, formed near the front end and surrounding the said screw-threaded open-v ing, as shown in Fig. 7.
C represents the frame of the nozzle, and consists of four ribs f f, each of which are constructed in the form as shown in Figs. 4, 5, and 6. From the rear end of the rib at a point g to about one-third the length at a point h the rib is curved to fit the surface of the nozzle, and the remaining length of the rib curves in the arc of a circle to a point i', which terminates with a downward hook-shaped endj. Each of' these ribs has a vertical flange k formed radially with vthe curvature of the rear portion of the rib, (see Fig. 6,) so that when the ribs are in position on the nozzle this flange fits in the groove e of the nut B in the` manner as shown in Fig. 3. The opposite or. hook-shaped ends of the ribs fit into slots Z Z, formed in the front end of the nozzle, as seen in Figs. 8 and 9, and these ends of the ribs are held in position' by a plug m, which is driven into the nozzle and is provided with longitudinal slots m to inclose the projecting ends of the ribs. A small hole is drilled diametrically through the nozzle and plug and a pin o inserted to secure the parts firmly in place.
The ribsf, forming the frame of' the nozzle, have their rear edges p adjoining each other around the surface of the nozzle, as shown in Figs. l and ll, and each of the ribs from this point extends tapering to the front portion thereof, as shown in Fig. 5.
The rear end portion c of the nozzle indicates the part to which th'e rubber tube of the syringe fastens. I
From this description it will be readily understood that when the nozzle is inserted in the vagina to be treated all that is required is to screw up the nut B, which movement expands each of the ribs simultaneously and stretches out the entire vaginal canal, and the Water as it comes from the syringe passes out through the perforations s in the nozzle, and thus removes all the secretions in a perfeet manner.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
In a syringe, in combination with a nozzle having an exterior screw-threaded portion near the extremity of its rear end thereof and a series of perforations extending longitudinally from its front portion, with a series of slots formed radially in the front end of the nozzle, a cylindrically-shaped nut having a centrally-screw-threaded opening to engage With the said screw-threaded portion of the IOO il l 673,321
