PAPER BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 671,7 59, dated April 9, 1901.
Application iiled January 4, 1901. Serial No. 42,096. (No model.)
T ZZ wh/Om it 777/002/ 007%067'70/1 rial, strawboard, cardboard, or the like be- Be it known that I, JOSEPH T. GRAW, a citiing employed, and the blank from which the zen of the United States, and a resident of box is formed is of greater length than width Jersey Oity, in the county of Hudson and and its edges are straight. The blankis pro- 55 State of New Jersey, have invented a new vided withaseries of longitudinal score-lines and useful Improvement in Paper Boxes, of 11, extending from one end to the other, and which the following isafull, clear, and exact these score-lines are so placed relative to description. each other as to produce alternate wide and One purpose of the invention is to provide narrow panels. When a box is to be formed, 6o y 1o a paper box especially adapted as a wrapper the side edges of the blank are glued or otheror envelop for fine or fancy bricks, and so to wise secured together, as shown at in Fig. construct the box that it may be partially 2, the connection being made adjacent to one open at both ends, or entirely open at one of the score-lines 11. When the blankis thus end and partially open at the opposite end, connected, a box A is formed which is of 65 I5 and, furthermore, to produce the partial clothe shape of a brick, the wider panels formsure of an end of a box through the medium ing the front andv rear faces of the box and of side and end flaps in such manner that the narrowerpanels the side faces ofthesame. cushions are formed against which another In addition to the score-lines 1l horizontal box containing a brick may abut, thus enabor transverse score-lines are produced in the 7o zo ling such bricks to be packed and shipped blank near one end. The transverse or horiwithout damage. zontal score-lines which cross the wider panels A further purpose of the invention is so to are designated as l2 and 13, the correspondconstruct the box that it may be quickly ing scoreelines which cross the side panels areplaced in position on a brick and a cushion designated as 14 and 15. Thus front and rear 75 or the cushions formed, and so that the brick flaps B and B are formed at one end of the may be quickly removed from the box. box and likewise side flaps C and C. Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a
wrapper or envelop for bricks, comprising` a rectangular box-like body formed of paper and provided at one end with side and end aps which when folded are left free, each of the flaps being of a width less than the distance between sides of the body and two opposing flaps being provided with diagonal score-lines extending from the lower corners of the flaps upward and inward to the edges of the flaps and terminating short of each other, whereby when the aps are folded a `space will intervene their inner edges and folds formed between the opposing faces of the said flaps at the corners thereof, said folds forming` with the flaps cushions, as set forth. i In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
